    Hello,
I have a repop Flathead timind gear, not sure how to tell if it is 8BA of 48' and earlier. I know the teeth go oppisite ways but do not have a piont of reference.
If I look at the gear head on as if it were installed and the side with the small drill hole is facing me the teeth slant to the left.

    Any help??

I just looked at the original gear from my '42 Merc (99A). Holding it so that I'm looking at the front side, and looking at the timing mark, the teeth slant to the right. Not sure about the "small drill hole" you refer to. My gear doesn't have it.
