A friend of mine is building a roadster for his grandson. He is using a 53 Ford flatty and wants to use a C-4 auto. Any good adapters around? I've heard horror stories about one well known flathead dealer. Not sure if they are true though.
    Thanks in advance

I've got an adaptor for my Y block from Gene and can only say what a nice guy to deal with, I've also had a Flattie adaptor and wouldn't go anywhere else.

I used the Speedway kit...bolted right together...just had to drill a couple of holes out a little bigger on the block.

Of you guys running C4's on Flatties, how do the flat motors run with a C4 behind them?
    Are they peppy? Sluggish?

A Flathead seems like a perfect match to an auto as they are all torque all the time.

faltheads run well behing the c4. I am running 3.0 rears to keep the flathead from turning to high at arround 70mph. One car has a gear vendors over drive that work well. Both cars are have lots of power and leave a light at a good clip.

I used the Speedway kit. The starter nose they sent didn't work, but I used a standard Ford truck starter instead. You have to be sure you have the correct size bell housing for the flywheel they provide.

I can echo that. I also have 3.0 gears and C4/flathead combination, and with 29" tires that works out to about 65 mph @ 2,000 rpm. It won't do long smokey burnouts with that gear/tire but it pulls nice and strong from a light.
