I am starting to build a flathead and was wondering what trans would best fit this motor? I want to use an AOD but is this going to rob the engine of power? The other option is a T5 manual trans! Would love to get everyones input!!!!
Pop....Pop....Pop Try the "SEARCH" button there Newbie. Both AOD and T5 to flathead conversions have been covered over and over and over again on here as they are both very popular swaps. Good Luck
i,m running a c4 3 speed,if you get your rpm about 2000,and speed about 55 it works well.I,m running a Mercury + 060 over and get about 18 MPG.
Here, I searched for you . . . actually not really since it was one of my first H.A.M.B. bookmarks a few years ago before I joined . . . http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=320631 Go to post #40 on page 2, and the bottom of page 3. He talks in pretty good depth about his T5 to flatty triumphs, woes, tips, and tricks. I have found it nearly invaluable in preparing for my future swap. PM user "Scott in Missouri", his name is Scott (not just a clever user name) and I am sure he would give you some advice when he gets around to it. And then this AMAZING link: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=169265 And like the others said, there is always a search button up top you can use to find anything you want to know. But if not . . .
Check the tech archives - LOTS of stuff written about T5 conversion. AOD will rob a fair bit of HP, it's large, and heavy...but a decent trans.
