Hi all. I introduced myself a while back and have been lurking around to get the feel of the place a bit. I tried the 'search' ****on, but couldn't find what I was after. Maybe you all can help. I have a later version flathead and want to install it in my '27 T Coupe. Someone told me that certain Jeep transmissions from the 70s will bolt right up. Is this true, and if so, which ones? Thanks in advance for any help.
I have never heard of a direct bolt on except for one of Henry's own. The T-5 is what gets all the press today. Check over at the Fordbarn for more answers.
The Jeep thing you heard about is for the shifter - the 3 speed Jeep lid fits on a '49 up Ford T-86 if you do a bit of clearance work. 302
i think the one you want is a 4 spd....3plus an o/d gear. i dont know the model but fellow hamber NOBODYS HERO has one thats for sale. mike is in N.J. i think frank oddo's flathead book also mentions it.
Hadn't heard that, but makes some sense. The Jeep conversion I know about is for a T-176/177 top shifter onto a Ford T&C Toploader ****** with a bit of clearancing work on the top of the case. David Kee transmissions is repopping entire Toploaders & the Jeep shifters now too - otherwise, good luck on eBay as they don't come up often & when they do, they go for silly prices - prolly have better luck in the local truck junkyard. Might be talking about the late-model Ford 3+OD as found in Trucks, Granadas, & Monarchs in the mid-late '70s - again, these are Toploader copies, so the Jeep T-6-177 shifter tower option probably works with them as well. Check the search function for T5 info. Loads of it here & recently posted again too...
