Okay, I see that Edelbrock is reissuing its four-barrel manifold for the flathead. did any other manufacturers ever offer four-barrel flathead intakes, or were the majority of them dual two-barrels?
    thanks,

We built a 34 cabroilet,an east coast style hot rod at the shop a few months ago. We put a 4 barrel on it, runs like a top. The manifold by the way is a Fenton. Not quite as cool as a multi carb intake, but a whole lot easier to deal with.

  4. I know for sure single 4-v manifolds for a flathead are/were made by the following, because I have the following on the shelf, or on an engine:

    Edelbrock
    Fenton
    Offenhauser
    Sharp

I'm going to install an Offy manifold and a Holley 390 on an 8ba, in a '53 Ford Customline this weekend. Anybody have advice on linkage and such? I'll do an update on the install.

They are all for small base 4barrel carbs which were gone by 57. Carters, Rochesters, and Holleys are still available. Those old carbs are usually real close to the CFM needed. An adapter will be needed to use a new carb. Try to keep the CFM down and there are Holleys available under 500, one it for rock crawlers many don't know about. Good luck.

I've been told that this 390 cfm is a good choice for a 239 flathead Ford. I bought the carb to manifold adaptor from Speedway.

Edmunds also made a 4 bbl intake.

Speedway sells a 4 barrel manifold. I use a Holley 390 on it. You cannot run a stock fuel pump on it and you have to machine your own breather adapter plates. The two piece casting is smooth and the machining is good. I am not sure about it's performance as I have never seen a comparison test between it and any other after market manifolds.

I just bought a new, stock fuel pump. Can someone give me a recommendation for a fuel pump? Can you explain the breather adaptation? I have a breather tube already on this manifold.

That is a great comparison test article but the test group does not include the Speedway four barrel
    manifold.

I'm using a vintage Offy. What about your distributor? I have a guy telling me the stock distributor will only work with the stock carb.

You MUST replace the distributor if changing the carb on a 49-53 flathead.
I got mine(chev conversion) from Bubba's in Indy, works great....really wakes up the old flatty.

Ford used a Loadmatic back in those days and if kept doesn't work well with later carbs.. That's why guys with early yblocks go to a 57 or later distributor. Good luck.

Thanks. I'll find a different one. It's not like I can go down to the local parts store and buy a replacement.
