Hi Everyone! Haven't been on here for a good number of years. Used to be "AV8 Dave" but couldn't successfully jump through all the "former p***word" hoops. I still have the '28 Ford AV8 sedan I've been doing the mockup on since January of 2001 and am now retired so hopefully there's still time to finish and drive it before my breathing permit expires!
I recently picked up what so far appears to be a "total creampuff" of an 8BA flattie for it and at this stage I only plan to replace the cam and lifters with 59A versions as I'm running all early stuff on the frontend including crab distributor, pumps, crank pulley and generator. Has anyone ever seen a pulley-mounted speedo drive like the one in the enclosed photos and if the large nut that appears to hold it on is right or left-hand thread? I'm guessing by the "SW" prefix on the part number that it was made by "Stewart Warner" (whom I actually worked for as a delivery driver way back in the day). speedodrive1.JPG speedodrive3.JPG speedodrive2.JPG Thanks in advance for any help and will post more photos and info as I progress with it's rebirth!

  2. It’s a mechanical tach drive, pretty desirable to some people. They are not reproduced and it appears you’re missing the brace that keeps it from spinning around with the crank.

Thanks Nick! Boy, is my old age showing as I didn't even think of a tach drive! No bracket came with it but I probably won't be using it anyway. Thanks again for your reply! :)

  4. Someone will buy it, should bring about 100 - 200 without the bracket. I would compare with similar ones that have sold and see what they got. My valuation was just a rough guess.

I swear I've seen that used (at least once) as a remote drive for hiding either a generator or an alternator under the car, can't remember which, I saw it in a magazine article many years ago.

Thanks for the additional info Nick. Just gotta get it off the pulley so I guess there's the purchase of the right size deep socket in my future.:)

Thanks Mr. Denny. Sounds like something a very resourceful hot-rodder would do!
