set them up with a unisyn. i had the ilel mixture screws at 1 1/2 put a vacume guage on to get the smoothest idle. i had to turn them in to like a 1/2 turn for the higest and smoothest idle. hit the gas an i get a backfire like it needs more fuel. that 1/2 turn can't be right. i think i'm going to set them at 1 1/2 and get hotter plugs see what that does. any ideas welcome.

My flatty did that with Champion plugs, the NGK's were very good. The Champs wouldnt run over 3200, the NGKs ran as far as I wnated to rev it, 4500, 4800, 5000 one time. I set the gap at .030

  3. First off, I don't think the idle mixture will have anything to do with the backfire on acceleration. I predict lots of blaming the speedway carbs. I'd still try the plugs first, anyways. Then find some old carbs:D
