I have been drivin' the 32 mor-door a lot more now that ol' man winter has set in......and a heater would be nice! I have never had a flathead that wasn't already a water heater,,,,,but this one has been good to me....and runs cool. The question is ...do you have a heater in your flathead powered hot rod? and what factory or aftermarket heater do I look for thats small enough to fit up in the p***anger area of the firewall. HRP

I've got one the is out of some kind fork truck I believe. a friend worked there and always bought them so I bought one and never used it. It is only about 8" square or in that area.
You could check in a pleasure boat equipment store. I have used small heaters from Volvo Penta. They are resonably priced, compact(10"x10"x2") and easy to install.
I have one out of a 1937 C***y. I had it re-cored and run a resistor so I could keep the 6 volt fan. With my side curtains installed, I'm comfortable down to 25 degrees. If I keep my jacked ****oned up and my gloves on, it's not bad down to +15. I have 180 stats, but still have most of the radiator covered with cardboard. If the roads are dry I use my roadster all year round on the weekends.
Paul, here's a hightechgoldchainer subs***ute for cardboard: old SAABS, the three cylinder stink machines, had a sort of cable operated window blind in front of the radiator, exactly the width of a deuce radiator--run some bead chain or cable through a soldered loop atop the radiator to the dash, and VIOLA! instant retractable cardboard! I bet Nads could name 35 1960's British and european cars that had these...Wolsely Wombat, Hillman Aerolump... What was the number on the old micrometer you were trying to ID...37?
Bruce, Thanks for the tip, but I have used the 31A shell. Do you think the Saab unit would look ok on the 31 shell? I was thinking of making a bra that I could snap-on and off quickly. You must have me confused with someone else reguarding the mic ID. Thanks.
. One of the coolest parts on my sport coupe is this aftermarket manifold heater. Flip the lever with your toe and a flapper valve opens allowing a straight shot of air in right behind the exhaust manifold. The hood swivels to direct the warm air. Size is an issue for an after market heater, if you still have the 32 gauge tunnel. It seeed like all the right side gauge tunnels were smashed or cut open to fit in a Pep Boys heater system. I have a cool art deco round heater for the roadster.
The SAAB screen would look considerably worse than cardboard on an A shell--it's just a roll up window shade made of gray plasticized fabric. Maybe if you pinstriped it...
TOMMY, do you have additional shots of this heater vent? Is it simply a hole in the firwall or is there a tube or some something coming off the manifold? Seems like a nice simple idea but I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking at. Thanks, don
