Technical flatnead trans removal ????

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by anthony myrick, Dec 1, 2013.

  1. did a search but no answer. I just pulled a late flathead from a f5 truck. Removed starter and all bolts on trans and block. The trans moved about an inch and stopped moving. What am I missing? The trans is the big 4spd.

I'm****uming that you removed the engine and trans as an****embly ?

It's possible the pilot bearing is stuck on the input shaft, and can't get past the clutch disc. This is the most likely situation. You said you removed "the bolts from the block", so you should be able to slip a wrench between the housing and block, unbolt the clutch****embly, and remove everything together. That 4 speed is a heavy critter, so be sure to keep hands and toes out from under it.
