Steve, there were at least two different 60 transmissions, standard and heavy duty commercial. The passenger one had tiny, toy-like gears and the commercial had the same type gears (I think with 29 tooth cluster) as the regular 85-100 hp cars. The task here is first to find out which one you have--the HD should be perfectly OK for use, the little one will likely blow as you back the car out of the garage and won't take any other gear set. Measure the dimensions of the shifter casting where it bolts to the trans, the rectangle where the gasket and bolts live. I think that will tell which you have. Both trans differ from 85 in the starter area of the bellhousing, and I think need some grinding to fit.

Steve, if it's that box you had off me it's got the big gears. Bruce is the expert, but I couldn't get my v8-60 box to fit on my 85 horse motor with just grinding. The job was detailed on the Old Rusty buildup on my pages. The french engine may be different enough in the area of the atarter to get away with just grinding though, I don't know. I don't have another box, unfortunately, I keep missing any that come up for sale. I'd like to replace the box in old rusty, with it's butchered case and welded up gears.

thanks guys, yes its the box off you mart. it bolts strait up cos the military engine has an ally sump which has its own starter shroud and dosent foul the box at all. just need to find the right starter now as its miles shorter than the others weve got. will post some pics tmrw so you can see
