Did some measuring, came up with a game plan..... moved the body back, took engine and ****** out.....
    Cut p***enger side mount out.....
    Plated the residual hole in....
Reinstalled the motor mount 1 1/8" lower than I had it, made sure hole centre to hole centre on driver's side remained the same.....
    Mount mount fits.....
Moved over to driver's side for more of the same....
I tacked a piece of 1/2" square stock to the boxing plate patch to ensure it's flush to the surface....
    And viola....
That's about how far I got today.....

Nice work Daryl. I'm sure it will work out.
And now that you have everything exposed, could you throw a 4' level on the bottom and give me a few measurements up to the bottom of the frame?
Say at the front fender mount hole, & rear shock mount. It sould be 4 7/8" at the front axle centerline.

Keep in mind that the bell housing area is larger (higher) on the late '48-'53 flathead, and will usually require the engine to be installed slightly lower than pre-'49's, or the firewall to be altered for clearance.
For those using the late truck pumps that need to lower the engine, '49 Mercury wide belt, or '50-'51 Merc narrow belt pumps can be used, as the mounting "ears" are cast higher on the pump body. Stock Merc "U" spacers or similar can be used to set the engine height.

I'm going to jump in here because all of you are worried about the position of motor mount. Concentrating on that you are forgetting to take into consideration the radiator, whats the radiator go to due with it? Well one of the biggest problems with later engine conversions is the alignment of the lower radiator hose connection. The hi or low position of the engine controls the offset of the connection of the lower water hose and because of the short span makes hose connection difficult. Before you go welding in any engine mount brackets you should first check the alignment of the radiator hoses. I know that there are a couple S cast adapters made up but they are a fixed offset and may not match your engine position.

If you want to use stock 32 engine mounts with the stock 32 cross member the simplest fix is to place a 3/8" spacer under the stock engine mount donut and use the lower water hoses from a 49-53 engine. This slightly pitches the engine making it a close fit between the fuel pump stand but every thing fits and makes a real simple conversion.

Here is a picture of 59a engine in my 32 with stock 32 engine mounts and 3/8" spacer. If you are using side mounts simply hook up these radiator hoses, high side to front and that will determine the height of the mount. No mater if you are using the stock 32 engine mounts or fabricating side mounts to fit the 37-48 style pumps you need to position the radiator to minimize the lower hose hook up angle.

Here are a couple of pics for reference...59A, 39 box and K member. My steel motor mount tabs were maybe just a 1/4" below the top of the rail and I still had good firewall clearance.

Finished up the motor mounts and decided to treat myself to seeing the actual engine that I intend to use planted in its eventual home.......

Firewall clearance is minimal but I can work with it.

I use the original motor mounts and K member, that's what I did with the Hoses.
