Flattie Speedway head studs too short?

I just went to put my edlebrock heads on my 49 flathead and I got a problem. The stud kit I ordered from Speedway for same year motor. The lower studs on both sides seem to be too short, like only 5 or 6 threads showing with the new heads on. The Edlebrock heads are not recessed for the lower head bolts like the stock cast iron heads. Now what? Do I have to buy a whole other set of studs for a hundred bucks? Anybody ever run in to this problem before? This kind of sucks.

I need a set for my stock heads if you need to get rid of them.

Your stud kit is for stock heads (or Edmunds) - most aftermarket heads require long studs along the bottom row

Ya, i believe the aluminum heads require longer studs. Check speedway one more time.

I believe all Ford/Merc flathead motors after 1948 used bolts instead of studs anyway. Go with bolts, it'll make the heads easier to remove next time anyway.
