does anyone know the dimensions (specifically length) of the different flathead generators. i have an 8ba, running a 3x2 intake, my genny is not the unit with the flange at the front edge, i think it is the earlier genny. im using a speedway offset mount. if i align the front crank pulley with genny pully, my carb intake fitting is blocked by genny. all i need is about 1/2" to make it work, and was wondering if the generator with the flange is shorter, it looks like it, but dont want to buy one just in the hope it will solve my problem. thanks
I presume it is a lefthand offset generator bracket you are using. Is the carb inlet fitting that gets in the way the breather tube from the bottom of the manifold? If so it can be twisted and pulled out( it could be tight) this can be shortend or there are some short ones made .H&H do one. Or you can go for a R.H bracket. I have also milled off the gen mounting face and re angled it and welded on a new one.
The flanged '49-53 type is not shorter, but it does mount quite a bit farther forward than the eary one because the pulleys are farther from the block on '49 than '48 back. If you had the early gen on a late mount, though, you would have had to space it forward to get it to meet the engine pulleys?
yes, im running early gen, with late offset(from intake), pushing it forward to meet front pulley, im still about 3/8" into fuel inlet on stromberg carb. is there any way to space out crank pulley, or adversely, am i able to disconnect first fitting from carb body, and replace it with an elbow?,
carb inlet fitting, thinking i might have to modify offset bracket (lengthen) in order to gain necessary clearance, cant go other side due to dizzy
Those are pretty weak as is...extended might be toodamnweak. I believe they made a right side offset for '49-53...anyone have pics? Seems to me I have both somewhere. Don't know how it was arranged re distributor...I always discard that late stuff. An option...Speedway makes one that goes way out on the left head. I think it is for alternator, but that means it would be easy to adapt to any normal '50's--'60's type gen with the two mounting lugs. In other words, any generator on the planet except '32-53 Ford.
