I'm working on a 51 ford f-6 dump truck and need a little help.Do both upper hose outlets get a t-stat and where do you run the heater hoses to,the top outlet on each head????? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,Dan
That's right, you can also buy a "y" pipe to put on the top center outlet and not only run the heater hose but a temp gauge.
I believe one heater hose goes to the top of the head and the other goes to a ****** on the p***. water pump. You need a pressure differential to get flow through the heater core.
tommy is right. The heater outlets are, 1. Top of head. 2. Water pump. A bit of a problem starts with Aftermarket heads and water pumps. They may not have the holes (threaded) for the extra outlets. Stock center outlet heads normally have TWO threaded "ports", (one on either side of the radiator hose outlet) one for a temperature sending unit and the other for the heater. Usually the second outlet on the left side has a pipe plug in it. NOTE: Some years of flatheads had a temp sending units on BOTH sides. (left had a single conection, right side, TWO connections) The sending units were hooked in series. The other heater port is on the RIGHT side water pump. The left pump usually isn't drilled and tapped. BUT some left pumps DO have a port; these pumps were often used in busses for a second heater. AND, YES, thermostats are used on BOTH rad hose outlets.
