so ive got a48 chevy fleetline four door ...a.k.a. german helmet. im trying to figure out why chevys of the 40's center division bar will not fit a fleetline ? the car i have came with a one piece rubber and no chrome moulding aroind windshield from previous owner. so trying to convert it back and run a visor . i understand fleetline was a trim package . but does that mean that the roofline or opening is bigger or smallerthan say a fleetmaster ? also wouldnt be for a aerosedan cause thats also a fleetline ...
Fleetlines were more than just a trim option, they had their own body style exclusively, which is the "German Helmet" (first introduced in 1941) and the "Fastback" (introduced in 1942 and ended in 1952) As far as the trim, often times, those reproduction parts do not always fit as well as the original parts and often need to be "tweaked" to fit.
thanks for the reply. im just confused i guess mainly because i went to the pick and pull and there was a 47 that looks exactly like a german helmet had the wing windows in back same car i have but was market fleetmaster....i was certain it was a fleetline so i pulled the windshield chrome off and paid the 75 bucks...i also cracked their glass..oops
Here's another website showing the different models. By the way, if the car was the same body style as your car, then the windshield trim should fit . http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/models/1948models.htm
well... in 1949-1952 Fleetlines have a lower windshield height than the Stylelines. maybe they did the same thing in 1948
according to my factory Chevrolet Master Parts Catalog there are 3 different sizes of that trim for 1948 passenger cars. 1941-1948 ..... ser.1200 ..... 15 11/16" 1942-1948 ..... jobs 1007 ..... 13 7/8" 1946-1948 ..... wagon ..... 15 7/8" I don't know what the ser.1200 or jobs 1007 mean, and I did not find any reference to it in the book.
I believe that 42-48 "jobs 1007" refers to the 2 door Fleetline and "ser.1200 is for all other models except wagons. That makes sense to me.
