Great story! The closest I have got to doing something like this was back in 1987 and it was deep south Georgia to Massachusetts. When we got there we figured out that the guy we got to inspect the car for us (the Chief of Police who I swear was the inspiration for the NEd Beatty character in White Lightening) was actually the seller's brother in law. This car wouldn't have made it to the end of the drive let alone 800 miles home.

Good read, and sounds like a blast! Also sounds like the lil' Mopar did a good job on the way home.

I have been told by very reliable sources that Stopping at the U.S. border side & shipping all your original paperwork 48 hours in advance is not required by canadian customs to import a 15 year or older car into Canada. I ,of course would not even think of doing such a thing.Because if there is a long forgotten lien or other problem with the title then i would want my car impounded in the U.S. and then i could go back to the seller and get a complete refund. As a canadian citizen,i am sure i would have all the rights that a U.S. citizen would have when dealing with the U.S. border officers. But then again if a major title problem did show up on the canadian side,i could leave the car on the canadian side or drive it back to the U.S. and get the problem solved on my terms and timetable.

Best road trip story I've read in ages! Not quite Hunter Thompson but then thats a pretty high (low?) bar......
Being a fellow Canadian I've never quite got this "title" stuff that seems to cause our American cousins so much consternation....

    Great story!
The SO and I used to live in San Diego and a few years back did a vacation from Oakland up to Seattle along the coast in a rented convert. Great times and your trip reminds me of the fun. We took bridge pics too!
I've got too many cars and projects now, but this makes me want to get another, which is a bad thing! There was a post on another board about a 61 Lancer wagon (my personal fav) a guy just picked up in WA. Hmmm......

  11. I've done the "Fly in - Drive home" deal a few times myself.

If you haven't done it yet.... get it on that bucket list!
