I could use some.. I bought a 302 and a AOD off of craigslist. They came out of 1985 ford pick-up. At least that's what I was told. Since then I've had the engine and transmission rebuilt. My problem is that I'm having a hard time finding the right flex plate. Napa Auto aren't sure if they can get the right and I called the ford dealership in town and they aren't sure if they can get the right one. My question is, does anyone know the right part number? I'd like to drop the engine and ****** in, in a few weekends. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Zach.
If you are using the AOD it would have a 50oz balance and 164 teeth several members that have done the swap use this:http://www.kmjent.com/cart/ford-sfi-flexplate-164-tooth-50-oz-302-5.0l-c4-aod.html 1981 and later 5.0 aka 302's are 50oz balance,I would also suggest this:http://www.dbelectrical.com/p-9936-...arter-302-351-higher-torque-3205-sfd0001.aspx It is a big help in giving extra exhaust clearance on the p***enger side.
any transmission parts supplier in town should have it. kmj has a good unit ant of the speed parts places should have it. need to make sure what year you have. as around 81 there was a balance weight change and it will vibrate if you guess wrong. also the balancers are different.
Zack , Don't know where you live but there are 2 different size flex plates Ford uses and the AOD is super easy to find . I am not sure where you live but I am in Pa. and I have one hanging on the wall with a block spacer plate . If you need one let me know . The 157 tooth is the common one for C4 and the bigger 167 or 8 tooth , can't remember , is the one you need so there is no problem getting one . heck Summit , Jegs , Evelbay , Rock Auto all carry that flex plate so don't worry , it's far from anything that hard to find , rare or obsolete ! Here you go -http://www.jegs.com/i/B%26amp%3BM/130/50238/10002/-1 It's $65 ! Jim
The AOD's are all 164 tooth, the 157 tooth was used on earlier C4's those can get a little tricker to match up in some cases because Ford did some weird converter changes and some will not interchange, later C4's with the large bell housing also had 164 tooth flexplates but stockers were 28oz balance as are the AOD flexplates from a 5.8 aka 351W the later AOD's from a 5.0 are 50oz balance.
Thanks for the feed back guys. I should also mention that I didn't have the engine balanced during the rebuild process. Is that going to cause any issues?
As long as you still used the 1985 crank and a matching 50oz harmonic balancer you are good to go.Then the parts I listed on the 2nd post will do the trick.
