Flex plate question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by roadstar, Apr 24, 2007.

  1. I need to get a flex plate for a 283 Chevy, it's a 1962 engine.

I am using a turbo 350 trans and need to know what size flex plate.

I'm thinking 153 tooth is what I need, and I don't think it would have to be externaly balanced.

Here is a pic of the engine just in case you were wondering if it was traditional enough:D

Rudy, Your right on the money with the 153 tooth flywheel. A 283 doesn't need the cranking torque that a 168 tooth will give. Just make sure your using the correct starter and your good to go. Also an extrnal balance is not needed, that's 400 crank stuff.
