I'm modifying a '39 Dodge 2-door sedan for my grandson. I am going to use the original glass cover for the headlights. I need to use some product to avoid breakage. I don't know if Flex Seal will work, or not. I'm certain Hamb'rs have helpful ideas. So, let's hear from you. Thanks in advance. DSCF3174.JPG

Do you need a gasket between the glass and fender or headlight bucket ?

I'd look for correct gasket or cut one from flat rubber sheet.

Clear anti shatter window film that's used on patio doors, etc. would work, I think. Self-adhesive and strong, it goes on just like window tint film. Otherwise, just don't drive where there's rocks in the road.

I've driven many thousands of miles over 40 years and never broken a headlight. I suggest you don't worry about a rock through the lense. And, if you are really weird about it, just look for a couple extra lenses now, so he will have a spare when he "maybe" breaks one in 50 years.

Considering how long so many original lenses have lasted, and are still in good shape, I think you're worrying about something that's not an issue. I still have original glass lenses on my '39 Chev coupe and they still look great, and no chips, etc. These old concave thick lenses are a lot tougher than you think. Might break one easily if you drop it, but they hold up well on the cars.
