I see people all the time say flip shackles on a 56. I look at my Mercury and have no idea what they are talking about. Would anyone elaborate on how you flip the shackle?
Flipping the shackle raises the rear for more tire clearance, looks, stance, etc. Jack up the rear of the car taking the weight off the suspension. Insert a prybar in the rear shackle and pry it down and forward being careful not to damage the car body or your own body! Repeat for other side and lower car back to the ground.
This is an internet pic I found of one that is flipped down (raising the car). Flip it up and the car will lower.
Mine are flipped down. That combined with Aerostar springs gives me a nice little California rake. Just the stance I was lookin' for!
I need to do something like this. I don't quite like the look of the shackle showing though. I might try air shocks instead. Anyone using air shocks On a '52, '53. or '54?
Yep, I've got air shocks too along with 2" extensions. I used these..... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AMCBJA/?tag=atomicindus08-20
Maybe they were 3" extensions......can't remember. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-727000?rrec=true Call Summit and ask if they have 2" extensions.
