Looks fantastic. I wonder, would it be easier to use a second set of four door front doors to do the door stretch? I suppose you could eliminate one of the seams that way, although I suppose even four door front doors for this car aren't exactly everywhere.

Great work, really looking forward to seeing progress pictures. There are so many overlooked custom projects that could look amazing with this type of treatment.

Finding anything Packard where I am at is hard. I would have most definatley prefered to find 2 door doors or even extra 4 door front doors. May sitill yet. Second is my budget. I only have about $1200.00 into this including price of the car thusfar. At this point my labor is easier than out of pocket cash. I'd rather save the cash for the finish work, paint, interior.

That thing looks friggin wicked! I always seem to have at least one of those big ass cat littler buckets in whichever car Im doing. It always seems to get kicked over, tripped on or thrown mid build each car. Rather distinctive sound it makes.

  9. I know of at least two 51-54 Packard two-doors in junkyards, plus if you change the top the 55-56 doors are the same. One of them was solid enough to build the last time I looked at it, too.

Good old fashioned initiative. It'll be the only one like it and it'll kick ass. Good job so far.

Jon is right. This was unusual for Michigan metal. Only rust thru was both rockers and rear wheelwells. Really straight Packard. Was almost a shame to start cutting................yeah, right:rolleyes:

hay whats up with this build? any new pics? my buddy asked me to chop his 51/52 packard so before i started to cut up the car i searched the hamb for packard 4 door chops and to my surprise i found this one. i'm basically doing the same exact thing, but might use the original rear windshield. I'll post some pics of how its going soon, but would love to see more of this one... thanks -alejandro

Just need to finish the passenger side and start the bodywork. I'll just primer for now so I can drive it for a few weeks before winter. I'll be spending the winter prepping for paint.

The flow of the roof is really nice, especially considering how boxy the roof was to begin with. The rear quarter window shapes are perfect too, hard to believe this was a four door. Well done I say, can't wait to see it with paint on it.

See, this is why I am humbled every day: I have been wanting to build a kustom early 1950s Packard for YEARS, and it never once occurred to me that I could start out with a 4-door!!
By the way, what's with the conveniently pre-rusted metal you used?

Nice job! especially on the sail panels.

That's quite a transformation from the first pic in this post.

The roof section is actually paint, looks like rust though. The rest is cause a took it to a car show Saturday and left it out overnight. Metal rusts fast here in Michigan!
