good pic...can see where the axel is welded on the pad...

you could set the caster and then weld it

the only thing I will do differant ... is add the pipe pieces ... looks like there would be a lot of stress on the axel where the nuts are, and the pipe pieces would allow more torge on the U bolts with out breaking the flange

Well, thank you very much. I thought it would be a very helpful image when I posted it up for you. I am surprised you didn't take any notice of it the first time around........

Weld the tubes top and bottom as well as welding the new bottom plate to the axle. Much stronger if the whole axle/pad assembly is "one-peice".

More importantly, DO NOT weld the new bottom plate at the ends. Only weld along the front and rear. Welding the ends across the axle could cause a possible stress fracture point on the axle....... Something you don't want.

yet another ill advised project,..took the truck to the shop,... here's the scope of work to be done.... took all the parts u bolts ,plates and such.... flip the axel... lol... they say WTF????,, just do it....I say...I get a call... "you need to come down here... we got the axel bolted in like you said, how you gonna steer it? every thing hits the springs now!" can we make it work???? " this is your mess and we don't have the time to do this hokey shit...you come say what to do and we will do it... the rest is on you... and don't ever say we had anything to do with it" I say, lots of people have done it with no problem,... " "maybe you should just take it to them"

LOL... now what...Boys are pissed off that this fridge is sleeping on the rack.... it's a cheep shop/parts runner...now it's a parts truck that ran when parked.......

  10. Took it to the wrong shop

there’s tie rod end drop blocks
    Dropped tie rod ends
The ones I’ve seen flipped have the drag link running above the leaf spring. A proper reamer can be used to flip the tie rod ends if needed.
Sometimes steering arm are heated and bent.
Mine had the old style ball type rod ends so those were simply flipped for drag length clearance.

the steering link geometry might have to addressed as well.

there’s a bunch of info here

The pics suck due to photobucket issues though

very good post, all noted and known...one other was to put hems, but they don't wanna do nothing till I say what to do....the real problem is they never would have done it this way to begin with,... the added problem is the power steering conversion that was all ready done hokey...so I have to go to the shop and say what I want done... the spring is in the stock location...the axel is on top... speedway has the dropped tie rod ends...2''... don't know if thats enough...they're way too busy with customers cars to fuc with my stuff, then add that it not right makes them pull away and go make money to keep the light on.....when a car goes on the rack it has to get done or get off the rack...my racks are like whores panty's... they have to go up and down to make money....

these exist for ford drop axles and dropped twin I-beams.
Never used em but they do exist.
A proper degree reamer will allow the dang link to flip as well.

went and looked , here's the problem...the cross steer power steering... and the steering is hooked to the tie rod... if you go on top of the steering arm you have less than 1'' travel...to the frame and pan.... if you drop the tie rod... then the steering won't hook up and if it did death wobble and for sure bump steer... soooo. the steering has to be changed... and even then the whole thing would be still real hokey.... but this is the hokey ass board so I guess thats ok...
but thats the reason my son said come look at it as I told him how fast and easy it would be... nothing is fast and easy that turns out right.... might work.... but....

OK, put the axle back below the spring until you get it figured out. The welded plates won't hurt anything...

Correct, and don't forget to add the thickness of the added plate to the bottom of the axle.
