Throw aside tradition and taste, and you're half way there! Might as well make some spinners...they're just as lame on an old car. Wouldn't you agree?

ok so do you know how to make some spinners? hahaahah hey to each their own not everyone is gonna like what one does to their ride, as for me im not a fan of flames but im not gonna talk **** about someone putting them on their ride

  4. i think what you do to make floating hub caps is weld a nut onto the cap, and then weld a rod on to the spindle and some how seal the bearing... idunno.. i have only had it explained to me once...

You're not seriously comparing putting flames on a chopped Merc to spinners or floaters on your car? Really!
You can't expect to ask a question like that on a traditional website WITHOUT getting some negative feedback. Let's just say "I" don't care for them, and leave it at that...
NO....I don't know anybody who can make spinners or floaters. Or who would want to,for that matter. Good luck with your search.

Hub caps will float if you lay them in the water with the inside up :D

If you try them the other way they will flip over fill with water and sink like a stone :D

I've seen floating caps before and there way differant than spinners. They do not rock back and forth. As said before, you need to make the cap attach to the spindle.

What if you use open lug nuts and studs long enough that they have threads showing then tack say 3 rods onto your caps and weld washers on the other end then just use some nuts and bolt em on top of the lug nuts...gotta make sure you can fit an open end wrench in there of course! idk if it would work but its an idea. Oh ya and Im not a fan of flames or chopped mercs but hey cool if you are!

Trailer Park, that video is exactly what I'm refering to. The first time I seen it it freaked me out. And it was on a custom and way before spinners came out.

That video is pretty bad ***. I can only imagine he attached directly to the spindel. There has to be some part on the back of the cap that allows the cap to be threaded to the rod attached to the spindle(for tire changes)? Possibly a nut tacked onto the back of the cap? The person obviously got the math right, cuz those dont budge or tilter off a bit!

  16. I'll look tomorrow but for all you guys ******* about tradition I have and ad in a small book from the mid fifties selling a floating hubcap kit. My grandfather who built cars back in the day also said there were a few guys doing this in the early fifties and I blew people's minds.
Bob you know I like traditional rides just as much as anybody and this is a traditional trick from back in the day.

"Old trick...drill and tap the spindles and bolt the hubcaps on to the spindle after you make sure nothing hits (valve stem, hubcap tabsweights) you should see peoples reaction.....lotta hey your wheel isn't spinning...your wheels broke!!!!!!"
(quoted from Brewsir in a previous forum reguarding floating spinners)

I really dont think you would get even close to the same effect if you were to buy the ones in the link and try to weight them. They would wabble back and fourth and the whole "effect" would be lost.

will do! and as far as tradition goes just read an article where the 53 buick wildcat came stock with floating hubcaps in the front they were called "roto static" hubcaps so this is by far nothing new,

    53bwild1.jpg

ENGINE TYPE: V-8 overhead valve, 8 cylinder, 188 horsepower with a 322 cubic inch displacement.WHEELBASE: 114 inchesBODY STYLE: Roadster This car was build for the 1953 General Motors Motorama and isone of Buick's first fibergl*** cars. Innovations for the timeinclude concave grill, "buffer bombs" integrated with a m***ivewrap around front bumper. Also featuring "Roto Static" front hubcaps that remain stationary while the wheels spin. At the time ofrestoration only one hub cap remained, the second one was made fromthe top of a "mini" Weber grill.</PRE>

im pretty sure bags and disc brakes are not traditional but many hambers have them, i say go for it to each their own.

  26. not in my taste, i think it's more "shock value" than good looks. however as for traditional i do remember reading an article (no idea where, sorry) about a late 50's or early 60's full "kustom" with floating hubcaps. also rolls royce and bentley have used them since the 20's or 30's, tho i think they might be the bearing mounted type

Those things are retarded, it makes your car look like the wheels locked up and you're skidding down the road.

    Thanks Mutt!...

  29. Mutt is spot on.
I do remember them as a kid. A guy had flat discs on the spindles of his parts chaser and had the name of the shop painted on them. Very effective advertising.

Saw some on an old sedan years ago, like a 1950 something. Interesting effect. He said they did it back in the '50s.
