Does anyone know the story behind these pics? I understand this was in Portland, Oregon.

Looks like the Louisville NSRA Show. I had a friend with a car there that was flooded up to the door handles. But I can't remember the exact year. Gary

I was there. I was in the main hall when we heard the rain coming down so hard, it was deafening. We went to a side door to see and it looked like someone turned a swimming pool upside down! We rushed out the front door to see if my buddies 46 Ford Coupe was ok as we saw the parking lot start to flood. We got to the 46 and it was on high ground so we started to hel push all we could to high ground. We even helped Troy & Boyd out. 10 of us lifted the brand new "Aluma Coupe" up and placed it on four 55 gallon drums.
It was quite a moment that will go down in Hot Rod History. Yes, we walked by the guy who popped open his truck and looked like he was fishing in the great pond! It was our HOT ROD WOODSTOCK MOMENT!

I had to go to Bakersfield Ca. to work that summer, had to be out there on Aug. 1st so I missed the whole thing. Eleven miles from my house. Tim

Lousiville. I was there as well. It happened so quickly that nobody had a chance to react. The storm drains for the low-lying "preferred" parking lot in front of the main exhibit building were plugged with debris from improper maintenance. As the previous poster said, the noise from the rain was deafening, but it wasn't until the building began to leak in torrents that the problem became very, very real. A lot of cars were damaged that day!

...I've seen this and other videos of that flood; even so it's difficult to believe that was happening. Luckily we canceled out on going that year at the last minute, such is fate.
...it's a wonder people weren't electrocuted from power cords going to those outside vendor displays.

Wow - holy crap !!! I couldn't imagine my car being flooded like that , and my car's a piece of crap compared to all those :( .

  16. I had this car there but had parked out in the back where the Pro's Picks etc were. Just gut rained on. Knew a lot of guys who sustained considerable damage.

  17. I was there, didn't have a car in the show, but it goes to show the power of Mother Nature. A lot of people lost a lot of cars that day!

  18. Wow that's crazy, and can just imagine the damage to some of the cars. Horrible. I can imagine all the restorers of Model A's etc, saying "see, if they had just left them alone at stock height there would be no damage at all"

I think it was 2004 it happen again - not as bad but some cars got hurt. The wind was unreal - I saw 55 gallon barrels of concrete for tents lifted high enough for the center poles to come out and collapse the tent I was in.

I was there in my 34 Phaeton, was cruising around in the rain but stayed on west side that did not flood. I remember seeing a 46 - 48 Ford with water over the fenders.. Lots of people changing fluids at here motels .

In '92 we knew something wasn't right when the inside drain pipes from the roof started overflowing IN the building. As said, the sound was roaring, and the bowl in the parking lot filled up almost immediately. When the stock barns in the back flooded, things really got "shitty".. Come Sunday, there were cases of empty oil and ATF cans everywhere. Engines locked up when owners tried to crank them without pulling the plugs to blow out what ran in around the air cleaner bolts. Some got surprised later when they found water had come in trannys and rear ends through the vent tubes.

In '04, it wasn't as bad, only had 3" in my roadster. But the wind was fierce, as was mentioned. Some poor woman pulled off onto a ramp off the Watterson and drowned in the lake at the bottom!

Welcome to Looeyville in the summer.

I can't believe I'd never heard about this. It was sad to see the video.

I was there too, never seen it rain so hard. I'll have to scan my photos some time. I moved my 31 just before the rain, just by luck from the area that flooded.

I and my two Sons were there. I was inside and my Sons were outside. They were in the car waiting for the rain to quit, steamy windows and rising waters. Lucky me, they were able to start the car and move to higher ground. Many rodders were not so lucky.

I was there in my '34. It just got a real soaking. My buddy was parked on the east side and his '34 had water half way up to the door handles. We drained the oil and transmission fluid, pulled the plugs to get the water out of the motor, and he drove back home.
