I want to convert my column shifting 3 speed in my 50 chevy to a floor shifter. I was wondering if there any floor shifters that you guys recommend? But dont want to spend arm and a leg...
Im looking at a Mr Gasket universal. Have you used it b4? The application says it will work for a 55 chevy. But 50 and 55 chevy had the same manual******* right?
My Dad istalled one is his old Ford truck years ago. I was too young to drive, but he liked it just fine. I don't know about your transmission question though. What type of seat are you using? That might matter.
We always used the Mr Gasket or the Hurst and they were nice, make sure you get the truck one though cause one of those kits does car and truck seperately and the truck will clear a bench seat. hope that helps a little
My wife used a vintage floor shifter conversion on her '51. It was a clumsy PITA that took a lot of finesse to use. Use a new one!
I'm looking at the same switch but a '74 Chevy swb. Egay has some great deals. I'd spend the money to get the hardened parts. Theres some "Spectre" or something out there super cheap but,,,,,they're just more of Chinese made junk. I'd stay away from the cheap*****. There's a very good Hurst Shiftmaster or similar name that is good quality and around $100.oo (includes ship'n) will last many years.
I dont know if you can still get one but a Hurst synchro-lock is my favorite. You cant miss the 1-2 shift with this unit, its stout.
