Friend has a PowerFlite behind a 291 DeSoto Hemi. It's '55 model and so it was controlled by a lever on the dash; not a push-button cable shift. The shift pattern is R, N, D, L (no Park as Chrysler used a transmission mounted brake.) I emailed Lokar and asked if they had a shifter or something that could be adapted to the PF, but the response was "no" They suggested Speedway, but I don't see anything there either. Does anyone have an idea of what might work? Lokar does have a shifter for a 2-speed PowerGlide, but it will have the unwanted and superfluous Park position. A picture from the 'net. Shift lever has the grommet, the upper lever is the kickdown (I'm assuming)
Can you photograph the working side of the trans for those of us who are unfamiliar? If there is a single "flipper" to attach the cable and the gears are in line, there are Lokar adapters that allow unmarked shift sequence pattern knobs. The "reverse lockout' button is eliminated but the reverse lockout function is retained. You may have to fabricate a 'cable stop' at one end or the other on the trans, but that shouldn't be a big deal.
I think a modified PG shifter would be easiest. Block the park position, cover the P on the indicator in some creative manner and run it.
Included pic on the original post. Yeah, KenC, that might be the route we'll take, and we've thought about it. But, price-wise, we may look for a something that's little less expensive than Lokar
Some of the late 60's - 70's Dodge RV's had a shifter pod with a short shift lever. Cable operated, guy could lengthen the shift lever to be used on the floor. One of the local junk yards has a few of these old Dodge RV's, I was scoping out a few years back!
I wasn’t around when the engine/xmsn were pulled….. In the picture, what position is the lever in? Is it in Reverse or Low?
