Thoughts and prayers with Florida. Lesson learned with Harvey was that the general evacuation should have been covered a greater area. Those who were not told to evacuate were hit hard & lost all their belongings and their cars. Florida and its major areas in the path are advising to get out of the way. The coastal areas of Florida are low and if it gets a high water storm surge there is very little to no coastal high ground that I saw on my travels. Better to have a car, family and some belongings at a safe distance. Asheville is nice this time of year. Irma is wide enough that if it goes up the middle of Florida that it will cover the full width of the peninsula & well into the ocean on both sides. The European weather model for the storm path for Harvey was accurate. The European model for Irma is pretty much Miami and headed straight north inland up the eastern seaboard and it could still cover the width of the state if it maintains its current strength. Stay safe.
Went out this morning. No gas available in Citrus County. Hoping for some shipments today. People had pickup's with 55 gallon drums in the back filling them up. They will probably be selling the gas for 10 or more dollars per gallon today and not be subject to the gouging laws. Scumbags.
I'm praying for you guys.{ PLEASE} leave. You need to get in the Hot Rod and head north. I have a guest room. Just send me a P.M. and your more than welcome here. Please Stay { SAFE! }Ron...
Hurricane Harvy in Texas, Irma coming up the east coast, Hurricane Jose right behind her. Major earth quake in Mexico.War looming with N Korea. I am thinking is the Lord cleaning house? You all be SAFE out there.Bruce.
Got lucky, I rolled into Lowes this morning, stepped in a line of 6 people. Drove off with 1 of 10 available generators. Gas cans are as rare as hell but I plenty of gas in the cars to siphon out. We have plenty of provisions as well. If the house doesn't blow down or get damaged we should come out ok.
Got some good news as it will only be a Cat1 or 2 when it goes over my place late Sunday. Still nothing to screw around with , but the plywood is going on the windows and the generator is ready . South Fl. is really going to catch it. I live up in the middle just west of Ocala so it will lose some power by the time it gets here ,I hope.
I'm 30 miles east of Tampa and although there is no threat of tidal surge in my area, there are plenty of large trees which makes me a bit uneasy. We will hunker-down and hope for the best. My best to everyone else in the path of the storm.
Gawd I hope to hear you guys checking in from about Minnesota. If you're not gone by now I doubt you're gonna make it out. Everyone keep safe.
The problem is the highways are packed and barely moving. Then you don't know if you will be able to get gas on the road if you try to leave.
The latest track shows the path has shifted a little to the west and that makes it better for us. We might get Cat 1 winds on the east coast.
Yesterday I was confident we were going to be OK in the Pan Handle. As time goes on Irma's track keeps drifting to the west. We live in a coastal wetlands community pretty close to the Gulf with only one road in and out. Still debating evacuating. We'll see. Gary
I'm in eastern Washington and surrounded by forest fires in every direction burning thousands of acres. I have to agree that someone's not happy! Sent from my SM-G955U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Going to my part time job at the golf course this morning. I trade 4 hours of working in the cart barn for 2 rounds of golf. Not bad here yet. Sunday afternoon is when it supposed to start here and last until sometime Monday. We are supposed to get 6 inches of rain and 75 to 80 mph winds. It is all sand where I live and the ground soaks it up fast. From the time it stops raining, within a half hour the ground is dry. I am on some of the highest ground in our county. Just be praying for all who stay. I can't leave because my 96 year old mother is here and I need to make sure she is safe.
Since the hurricane shifted more Westerly I decided to evacuate. For those of you leaving Highway 75 is clear so far all the way to Ocalla and fuel is available. traffic is flowing at 65 70 miles an hour. As of 950 Saturday Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
We are on high ground, but have oak tree in front and back yards.Cops just came around and told all to evacuate. We have a walk-in closet in the middle that we will stay in. 97 yr old mother with us, so evac is next to impossible. We have generator, food, ice, camp stoves, water, maybe not enough beer though, but have rum!! Wish I knew how to get rid of these slant letters
301 is clear all the way to 10. If you guys around the Tampa Bay area really need to get out of there. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Wishing all you Florida folks the best.Born and raised in Vero Beach(1945 to 1985)been there done that. And it ain`t no picnic.God bless and keep you all safe. Leo
Got my Packard stowed away in the garage, just waiting at this point. good luck and God bless to all.
Get to see the eye of the hurricane on Monday morning if it tracks the way they say it will as a 2 or 3 depending on how much time over land. As prepped as can be ,said a prayer that all would be spared and now it's in his hands.
My wife has been freakin out over Irma since its been tracking to the west and the fact we're pretty close to the Gulf and live on a tidal lake in a coastal wetland community. As the crow flies we're about 3/8 of a mile to the Gulf. Left this morning for Kentucky. Absolutely no problem coming up I-65 North. Light traffic and no problems getting gas. Hope we have a house to return to.
lived here in nw fla all my life. you can deal with the wind inside a strong building, but not the water rising . hope everyone makes it
Due to shift in path west, we are bailing. should be on the road by 5 am Headed for Knoxville TN where Debbie's daughter lives....hopefully good choice. Maybe Columbia SC if storm heads Knoxville way
7:44 AM Sunday morning in beautiful downtown Jensen Beach. Work the last few days putting up the hurricane shutters, braced the garage doors, picked up the yard junk, test ran the generator and got REC-90 for it. Was going to bug out but with the shift we decided to stay. With all my preps I still blew it - forgot the snacks. Right now there's a pretty healthy feeder band going over the house with lots of rain and 50+ MPH winds. Power is still on and direct TV is pretty stable. I'll check back in later. Tried to add a video but is says the file is too large. All you west side HAMBers hang on and God Bless. Lee
29moonshine, on Friday we could have gotten three different hotel rooms in Pensacola called Saturday morning and none were available. Snooze you lose. Right now it looks like Pensacola will be OK. Stay safe. Gary
Managed to cram 2 kayaks, half a hot rod, the car and all my tools into the garage. Now it's just wait and see. I am in Tallahassee and it looks like we are directly in the path now. Keeping my mind off things by reading the HAMB and drinking beer. --louis
