    Nick,
You are right and I'm sorry. I really goofed up and didn't understand original premise of this thread. This show will be an invitational. I too wish success on the endeavor. Gary

June 27th. Doesn't conflict with July 4 plans. and my wife is out of town so I won't have to negotiate it

Lay out? I have seen it done both ways. Cars roped off front and rear with no visitors walking between the cars only front and rear traffic. Cars roped off all the way around, visitors able to walk entirely around the car.
Doing it the 1st way will allow for more cars to be shown.
2nd way will allow visitors more access to the cars.
    Lets hear it!

  4. Busted Knuckles, at least you know the definitation of a Trailer Queen. Why are we spending so much time tearing each other apart. Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't hot rodding about building cars to ones personal taste, driving them, having fun, meeting new friends, and sharing in the experience with other like minded people. Why does everyone become so hostile at the term "Rat Rod"? The term has many definitions. I've seen quite a few vehicles on this site that in my mind would qualify as a rat rod. If someone likes rat rods, are we supposed to not talk to them? It is my understanding that when hot rodding became of age, people were just building fun cars to drive. Many of them were unsafe in the early days (sound familiar). Hot rodding is not set in stone. Be friends and "Can't we all just get along". Hmmmmm.

Hey Brian, if you really want to do this, you have a ton of support from our club. I can't believe the bullshit that this idea has brought about! What a fucking joke man. I thinking the saying from the movie Field of Dreams applies best here. "If you build it, they will come." If the detractors have no interest, they can stay home. The Florida hot rodding community has been raked over the coals for years. Some of it is justified, some of it is not. A show like this can only help prove that there is in fact an active traditional rod and custom following in this state.

The War Memorial has a great nostalgic feel to it too. It is a great location with plenty of hotels, restaraunts, and night life nearby. Let me know how your plans are progressing. We are here to help you in any way we can.

How about clubs with multiple cars all shown together without full access around the entire car on the main part of the floor and single cars with access from all sides in other areas (corners, entrances, etc.) Basically where they would fit better. Just throwing this out.

roped off all around with no walking between cars...you may be responsable for the rope set up, so start savin your old coffee cans!!!! Need to measure the inside space and figuse out how much of that can be dedicated to each car..but still have enough so spectators arnt reaching across the ropes. OH and most armorys that I have been to have a kitchen.....keep it closed! who wants hamburger grease floatin around when your stuck right next to it all over your paint... and the line to eat..."man did you see that crowd around my car!, they must really dig it"..no there just hungry HAH!

if everything else is going to be outside you may get some of those tents on loan from the funeral homes and such with some tables if the site has then and folding chairs..and FANS!
just a courtisy but not nessisary

Maybe for the indoor enterants a dash plaque and the outside guys a show poster or something..or maybe not..I dont think this is going to be a cheap endeavor with out some outside sponsership...Budwiser? local tattoo shops or record stores?..Have more ideas tell ya about them at Garlits

I'm not trying to be hardcore or bash anyone's shit, I was just being blunt.

I guess my problem is that I see the line between well-built, quality cars and cobbled-together junk being blurred (or even erased) at some shows and that bothers me. Does that make me an elitist prick? I don't know, and I don't really care. I like what I like, and I have a ton of respect for tradition.

Does it hurt my feelings that some guys build cars that I'm not into? Not in the least. Should we "not talk to them", ahhh, screw that....we're all car guys and it's all good. But for the same reason I wouldn't go to a tuner show for hopped up Mitsubishis and Hyundais with boom box trunk speakers and big tail wings, I probably wouldn't show up for a rat rod show...bottom line, I don't hate those dudes or anything, their cars just aren't my thing. But hey, I'm just one guy with his own whacked out opinion. I'm also the guy that, even though my 65 Riv was "drive-able" about half-way through a 3 yr restoration, I wouldn't drive it until it was completely done and perfect. Yeah, I'm kinda weird like that.

I don't want to come off as some holier-than-thou asshole. An invitation-only show with some sort of standards that would keep the focus on true, traditional style rods and customs would be great. If that's what we're really talking about, then I would show up, support it, spend money, etc.. If the focus is on having a show where the only criteria is that whatever you enter into the show has to actually be driven to the show, regardless of build quality, then I'll probably just go fishing. :)

This show will not contain any , I say again anything indoors that would be even remotely be concidered a Rat Rod! I may be more lenient on the outdoor show , but that remains to be seen.
This show will be a traditional styled show for cars of all types, no airplane cars or any of that bullshit!
    Think Autorama from the 50's.
What clubs would be interested in having a few of your cars together in a group display ?
There will be no no no food indoors, drinks yes food no !
I have yet to be asked by anyone to concider there cars for the show, is no one interested?

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Fort Lauderdale</st1:place></st1:City> is the perfect place for a indoor show. we used to have World of wheels a really nice indoor show .i don&#8217;t know what happened to it
As far as rat rods inside GNRS satin plaice? it works there
I am not a big rat rod guy but when I am at a show I will properly be standing in front of one and getting some original ideas. what do you get from standing in front of a red 32
That looks just like the black one next to it?

To clarify, just because it has flat or satin paint does not a Rat Rod make!! Bigger holes than your 1st girlfriend, gaping gashes of rust, more than 5 skulls glued or bolted on, seats from a tractor, mustang II front end on a fenderless car, those are what make it a rat rod. Now lets get back to the program! If you dont like it move along, I am receiving plenty of support from those that really know and understand what it is I am trying to do for YOU, yes You.

Hay man I am with you . I remember the world of wheels left Ft Lauderdale <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
Because of the event insurance was so high they could not make any money <o:p></o:p>
Maybe because of the location the insurance requirements are not as high at one of the older Event centers <o:p></o:p>
like war memorial or the real old one on 84 and 4th ave <o:p></o:p>
But with the older centers you may conceder half inside half outside <o:p></o:p>
You can probably only get 100 cars inside the math does not work<o:p></o:p>
100 cars @75.00 $7500 after trophy’s, insurance, security and the rental of the center<o:p></o:p>
You better sell a lot beer
and to answer the next posts yes I can f#@K up a wet dream<o:p></o:p>

  16. My thoughts, anyone coming from outside of Florida, you are into a second days travel. It is 8 hours or more from your locatiion to the Florida line. Almost a day per state above the state line. This location would be mostly local southern Florida cars. I now live in Geogia after a lifetime in Florida and I can't tell tou how convenient it is to other states from Atlanta and the north Georgia mountains.
There are no continuing indoor shows in FLorida for several reasons, travel being one of them. Another one is that FLorida has outdoor activities all year round. Detroit Autorama succeeds because the folks up there have cabin fever in the spring and want to go somewhere that has car activity, and is warm.
I have put on indoor shows in FLorida, so I have some hands on experience and I wouldn't do a show again in Florida. Every few years, someone comes along and thinks they can make it, but few do. Some of the big players have tried and all failed.

I mentioned this to the owner of the "Aztec" and he would be interested! He lives on the Treasure Coast.

Yes on the Aztec , it is up in Ft Pierce and thanks for talking to Mr Mazza! I was hoping to have 00Mack pimp the idea to him! Ya beat me to the punch! I extended invites to 10 cars yesterday at the Billetproof show and all invited are really excited about this possibility.

Any car show should be inside about now. Damn we need some more rain and blazin sun. I'll do AC car show every weekend this time of year. Who's got the space for indoor drag racing?

  22. I have produced shows in Florida.
Assuming you are doing this to make money.
Here are the things that I think are against the success of the show.

    1. You are located at the very bottom of the state so you add a days travel just to get to the Florida Georgia state line. Pretty much eliminates a lot of out of staters.

    2. Floridians have a lot of things to entertain them year round, unlike the frozen Northerners that have cabin fever.

    3. The idea of judging cars the morning of the show won't work. Long lines and Rejected cars and owners quickly get hostile.

    4. The history of Florida car shows has been poor and every big promoter has tried it. Indoor and out.

If I were to promote a show again, I would choose Florida last. The list of failed shows in Florida is long and the big names are recognizable.
Notice that the majority of your responses are from Floridians.

I admire the spirit of wanting to do a show, but it is a real crap shoot.

Make sure you check what other entertainment is happening on your dates.

    That is all, have fun.

If you have produced some shows in Florida maybe you know Mike Sidney ?
I had a 61 Vette; 56 Ford Crown Vic Glass top known as Victorian Treasure both mild customs and a 1954 Ford p/u radical chop known as The Islander. I can remember crowds of people every day and have been asked when we might see another show by many. I was a ISCA member at the time so maybe you can find Mike Sidneys # or contact as I've had no luck.
    Thanks Bobby
