Tim more importantly is to get the converter seeded all the way into the trans before bolting to the engine. I didn't prefill mine and it worked until the dog ears on the pump broke off. LOL Hence my advice. There is three steps to sliding it on. Two different sets of plines and two holes for the dog ears, the last step. Something to check, if you can't stick your finger between the bottom of the converter and the trans housing you got it far enough. You can bolt them together and not have this lined up. Error error!

  5. I never filled one before I installed them.....

  6. put a quart of ATF in the convertor before you install it the ******. put a little on the front seal to lube that up too. and as calical says, make sure the convertor is engaged properly into the oil pump! after you get the motor/trany in,put in another 6 or 7 quarts(7 is about the most you will get in) fire the motor and put in the rest. a rebuilt t350 will hold about 11 quarts

The only time I've ever done it was on a 700R4. The guy that built the ****** told me the same thing above about putting the Torque converter on the ******, you should NOT be able to but your finger in there. You slide it on and spin it around while pushing it, and it will eventually fall into place.
He said that I should install the converter dry. He then said to dump 5 quarts of fluid down the fill tube for the ******, start the car for about 30 seconds in NEUTRAL, then put the other 7 or so quarts in.
    It worked for me.
