Nice racing, Dick. I enjoyed the videos a lot. Watched 'em several times. You must have been cutting good lights to go that far.
Yeah, I seem to be finally getting the hang of this "Christmas Tree" thing. Had only one r/t that didn't have a one or a zero up front, and that was my ladder bye. Also getting somewhat more consistent on my e/ts. Not Bracket worthy yet, but better'n I was. Now if I could just quit screwing up my dial-ins.
OK Kiddies, The last item on the mods list was the pipes, Papa Joe wanted'em to point more away from the driver. I have the new set cobbled up and mounted, just need to finish the ends up now. I'll do that sometime this weekend, and put up some pictures (of all the smaller changes as well). Wish I had the coins for some chrome. I took the opportunity to change the pipes' design at the same time, I think they fit the car's character even better now. How's that for a tease?
30 lashes? No sweat, bring on the wet noodles. Well, here're the pics of the latest fiddling about ...... the pipes (I really like'em ) ...... the kill switch ...... Kin I go racin' agin now, Joe?
Old6rodder: As far as ingenuity goes, I'm afraid that you have raised the bar too high for your fellow HA/GR's to reach. The Flyin' Brick is a prime example of the kind of mischief that old minds and skills can get into when their better half isn't finding enough for them to do. Keep pushing the envelop!
Having know him longer than anyone else in my life I must admit that Dick does know how to "raise the bar". Innovation has always been on the top of his list.
Well old6 you done right for all use HAMBster's with your changes. A happy "Papa Joe" makes for a nice smooth tech line. I like the new header design and the Push Off electric switch. Keep up the good work. See you in a few weeks.
Well, Kiddies, The 'Brick's ready, the truck's ready, the wife's ready, I believe I'm ready, and Eagle Field doth bekon. I re-indexed the cam, re-lashed the valves, re-set the timing, and washed the windshield. Should be worth at least a tenth, don'cha think? Also, the painter'll be finishing his upgrades of the lettering tomorrow morning. I'll try to remember to take a few pictures before I load'er up on the trailer. Hard to believe how much I'm looking forward to this meet.
Dick, what time are you going to be up at Eagle? Been working on the intake and carbs for last few days and I think we are good to go. Make sure Kay has all her gear as I am sure 1 pass will be it for me. First trip with the new (old) 69 Suburban, Open trailer with pit cart up top and Hot Rod below. Wish us luck, we will take our time. See you there.
Should hit the Field between 1200 & 1400 Friday. Hoping to get there early enough to take a shot at arranging the bunch of us into a "court yard" layout, with our cars at the fronts of our pits, and our various other vehicles behind'em toward the rears. Think it'd be killer for folks to be able to see all us HAMBsters together at a glance. Hope your Suburban handles the trip well. Looking forward to seeing your latest work in the "flesh". Will I still recognize it? I didn't get home early enough to get pictures of the new paint, but the guy finished up this morning while I was at Charlie's doing float work. It's exactly what I wanted. In addition, I've settled on the nose art for'er. I'll be working up the sketches over the winter, and'll have it on for next season. No drama this time, it'll be my muse Tinker Bell seated on a fairy dust enchanted flying brick.
Well, the Eagle Field dust has settled, and IT WAS BITCHIN'. Here're a couple pictures for the keyboard illiterati among us ...... First, a few of the 'Brick's new pipes & paint ...... One of Jeana & I ...... And a Kleet Norris one of the gang, our "Gathering of Eagle" ...... I'll add some video links soon as they finish uploading.
Wow!!! Anyone that sees that group lined up and doesn't wish that they had been part of the action has something wrong with them.
Great weekend of racing and fun in the pits. If you can't have fun doing this you probably aren't capable of having fun.
What a great group shot at the end of the track. And the possibility of doubling the car count at the May 2014 Eagle Field get together. What a target to shot for.
Howdy, Well, here're the only two videos that survived my camera (mis)handling. Scott & I on our closest run, and the best race of the weekend. He hit me for a hole shot, I worked my way back, then wheel to wheel at the line. Click here. Jeana & I on our first (HAMBie) run, I think. Out of the chute pretty even, and through first. Then I managed to pull her a bit later in second, and sealed it in third. Click here. Just a sample of the weekend's runs, 12 in all for the 'Brick. Looks like I can ease the sideways stops on the camera out a bit more, and catch a bit more of the next lane's car.
So.......Did ya have any fun? I know I sure did. Thanks a bunch for my passes, the car just keeps getting better.
Yeah, I may've had a smidgeon of fun. Hard to tell in the mirror, the glare from my grin makes it difficult to see. Glad you enjoyed the rides, I love seeing'er in action. It's a blast for me even watching the 'Brick run, something about the really low & aft driver's position in a tub just gets to me big time. She's finally the car I've wanted for what feels like ever.
T'was decidedly a weekend for the memory books. Great wheel to wheel racing, great friends both old and new, makes the sport more than just the machinery, and far more fun.
old6rodder was the number one qualifier in open wheel (O/W) class this past weekend at the ANRA Nostalgia Finals in Bakersfield, CA with a .006 light (O/W sets it ladder for Sundays Eliminations on reaction time). Great weekend.
Howdy, What a weekend, as noted. We had to put off going up 'til Saturday morning, due to float commitments Friday. Got there with just barely enough time to pull the 'Brick off the trailer, tech'er, and get in the lanes for first round of Open Wheel quals. Had to wait to get my wrist bands on 'til after the run. Fortunately Papa Joe's familiar with the 'Brick, and ran us through pretty quick. First qual run Joe and Jeana went for their HAMBie, with Joe going red for the loss. I was pretty far back in the lanes, so had to take the bye. Likely a good thing, as my run could only be described as pathetic. Went off red, couldn't locate second gear to save my life, finally gave up and tucked'er in third in order to get back to second. Pathetic run here. Managed to pull myself together a bit better for second round qual, as Jeanna and I paired up for our HAMBie run. It was a great wheel to wheel run, with Jeanna slightly ahead at the 1/8th, and me finally pulling it out of the fire near the 1/4. Alas, Joe forgot to bring HAMBie along again, so I'll have to live on the memory alone. This was the run I pulled a .006 r/t out of the hat, earning myself the Open Wheel top qualifier spot, and the "ladder bye" in the event of an odd number of cars on Sunday. Here 'tis. Jeana also got a "competition bye" (no-show by opponent), and ran hers right in front of me. Sunday's Elims, I ran last (byes are run after the comps). Nothing spectacular, as the car seemed to have a bit of trouble hitting the tach. Nice safe r/t, etc, etc. This is that one. Joe lost his race, and Jeana won hers. Second round I was paired with our friend Mike, and as you can see was off my game enough for him to back off for an easy win. I'm no bracket racer yet, but am getting a bit closer to it. See here. We spent the rest of the day watching the rest of the Elims, and kicking back in the stands with Joe & co. Lit out for home just before sundown, and that's about it. I'd premiered my newest song at Eagle the preceding weekend. It's a rip-off of Buck Owens' "Streets of Bakersfield", called "In the Lanes at Bakersfield", about sitting out oil-downs in the Bako sun. So naturally ...... two in a row on that first run Saturday. Kharma, perhaps? Will have the nose art on for next year. Also hope to have a fresh block, and something less butchered in a clutch as well. Beyond that she's as she'll be, and as I lik'er.
Nice write up of the event and of your noteworthy performance. I sure like the videos. It is very encouraging to see that the cars are competitive in eliminations against other open wheel racers. I saw Joe and Jenna make a couple runs at the CHHR last weekend at Bako. Bangshift video streaming is really nice to have available. Didn't see you run. Were you there?
Not satisfied with being 1st HA/GR on the west coast, 1st mid-engined HA/GR, 1st mid-engined HA/GmR with the body added and 1st sit beside the engine HA/GmR, Old6rodder also now has the 1st HA/GR Funny Car Flopper! Where will this all end? Seriously, this guy needs to be on the lookout for the fun police, because he continues to push the edge of the envelope to the max!
How bout a Flopper style Comp/Coupe for the HAMBsterLady, what say about that Kay? Could be the first HA/CCGR on the Coast or any where else.
