All good information and I do hope you get the front cage on and make the opener. I know it will be a bolt on, but we do have to keep Papa Joe on the good side.
I like Joe, he does his job per the rules, and still understands the various racers and cars (and what they're each really about). Unfortunately, they don't give him much wiggle room in their silliness regarding the lower classes.
Well Kiddies, I finished up the pipes, and a couple other small things. She's ready to pop the tub off, and do up the odds & ends underneath, and paint up the chassis. I'll also fit in the front hoop while she's opened up again. First street test was inconclusive due to the middle carb flooding out today. You certainly do notice any sideways movement a LOT earlier now, no subtlety in'er at all. I got the trailer done, but need to put in some wheel stops. Seems taking all that length off the front of both the trailer and the car resulted in negative load on the hitch when the car's all the way back (thought it might ). So I'll have to park'er a bit forward of where she used to sit, and the stops'll keep me from over doing it and winding up pointed at the sky in the pits. Likely get'er up to Scholl Canyon scales sometime in the next couple weeks. Anyway, here're some pics on the street ...... The sketch, for reference ...... And one from the office ......
I know it's an overused term, but...your car looks awesome! Being on the street gives scale to the pics. You can't hear it or see it, but I am applauding.
Dick, what a transformation, You should be real happy with the results. Can't wait to look all the changes over and see her make a pass. Hope to see you at the opener, bolted in front bar and all. Just when Papa Joe was getting so he hardly looked at the old car you throw a major remodel at him.
Found the problem I've been having with #2 carb, seems there's a 3/8" square hole in the (back) side of the float just above the mid-line seam, so the float ...... wasn't. Still trying to figure out how it worked at all. Ordered fresh floats & needle sets for all 3 carbs (from Burlen, in England), just to try to get ahead of this season's annoyances.
Just cover the hole with duck tape and run it! I'm thinking that explains your intermittent "stuck float" symptoms.
It might. These kits also come with the little cap/screen thingie that goes up in the seat well too. This carb set didn't have'em when I got it back in '06, so I hadn't realized they were supposed to be there. At 2.5 lbs it doesn't take much grit to keep a needle off a seat, and with the inlets/needles being vertical, they clear themselves with enough flow.
Howdy Gentlemen, I've been slowly getting the parts cleaned, repainted, and re-assembled. While putting in new overflow tubing on the SUs I had a braingasm to slash cut the stacks. Soooo .........
Ya nice looking stacks but I still can't see that bolt in front cage bar and time waits for no builder/owner/driver/VoDo dude. It does look real fine, the change from last season is unreal. A one of a kind hot rod to be proud of.
OK Kiddies, I finally have'er re-assembled, and back on the trailer. Unfortunately I wasn't able to fit the old second hoop to the new upper main bar angles as I'd hoped, the geometry didn't work out close enough for me. The new geometry'll require a fresh hoop & struts made up, and the guy who had the larger radius bender has up and moved to Indiana. I'll have to fetch some tube from IMS, and pay to have it bent at a shop down in Santa Fe Springs that we use for some of the float's bending. Hope to have it back for welding up & fitting to the cage in a couple weeks. Anyway, here're some pictures as she goes back on the trailer, first of the HA/GR ...... and then the HA/GmR, iterations ...... ...... enjoy.
Those are some great pictures of a real fine home modification that anyone would be proud to call their own. I can't what to see it run. Looks like you will make the opener, yes/yes/yes? Does Dick M have a bender at their shop, or is that where you have float tubing bent? Hell he's got a full production center, never seen so many nice machines and his own little race car area to work in, must be nice. Keep it up, your on the final leg.
Yeah, nearly there. All I need's the business world to leave me the hell alone long enough to cover making up the setbacks. I don't know about Dick having a bender, I've never thought to ask'im. We use one down there that does just that professionally, seems to make a pretty good living at it too. Also sort of a car guy, he restores (very nicely) old mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles. Hey Dick, you got a 10" radius bender for 1 3/4" tube?
Howdy Gentlemen, Well, I had a blast at Barona again. Got in 6 runs, three of'em with the 'Doll (two with Dimitri, and one with Amy). Could've easily done more but they run the tow-ups in a specific lane, and we had to sit out the lane rotation each time we ran together. Met some decent kids with some cool old putts, and a whole A/FX club (with a dozen cars there racing). Pete Liebig, the track's photographer, took several pictures of the 'Brick, including some with the 'Doll, and a couple "artsy" ones. So I bought this one ...... The others he took can be seen on his site, here for his meet album ..... http://www.peteliebigphotography.co...arona/29058529_vV4HTc#!i=2473234573&k=qr9CgSt and here for the 'Brick's ones if you like (those really cool artsy ones're here ) ...... http://www.peteliebigphotography.com/keyword/18#!i=2473559073&k=d6F6z7H
Now where's that "envy" icon? Did everything check out after the major reconstruction? Great that Barona lets you run and doesn't panic seeing a side-by-side machine. One of the style elements I like is the rear wheels are now close to the body, or rather, the body is close to the rear wheels. It's the one thing I don't like about the appearance of our cars.
Good & bad. I re-clocked the cam while I had'er down, to bring the power band down a bit. it worked nicely, so now I'm frying the hides pretty much at will. Unfortunately the new layout's light on the left wheel, so guess which one fries? I'll need to redistribute some weight, and put in the mini-spool that Joe gave me. With all that, she's running slightly better'n last year, but lighting up one hide if I over tromp'er even a taste. Should get a real nice improvement when the spool's in. If that works out, I'll save my pennies up for a regular Posi. I think Ford calls theirs TracLoc. Yeah, the smaller meets out here're far more rational about non-cookie-cutter designs, it's quite nice. Between Rocky's Eagle Field, Barona's Antique meets, and Forever Four's Antique meets, there're now 6 a year. Famoso (where Randy first ran us at his Dragfest, then Butch let us in his Open Wheel class at his American Nostalgia Racing Assoc. meets) has Butch's 4 ANRA meets as well, for 10 meets total this year. Sadly two weekends were scheduled with meets opposite each other, so that only allows us to get to 8 of'em. The first decision was last weekend, when I didn't get the front hoop addition finished in time to go to Famoso (it's now mandated for EVERY open car there, NfHRA at it again ). However, Barona's a great meet too (all grudge, so more runs by far ...... just not a 1/4 mi.). The next'll be in October, when Eagle Field's up against Barona. Now, Eagle's flag, and Barona's tree, so, can you guess just where I'll be? With apologies to all actual poets. Actually, I like the wide rear end look. Hell, even the slingshots started out that way at first. It wasn't long before they started narrowing'em, but they sure didn't begin narrowed. 'Course, the bodied cars've always looked the way they do (just not so radically tubbed as now ).
Well it sounds like you had as much or more fun than your fall trip last year. I think the antique meet twice a year is going to get bigger as time goes on. Because the Fourever Four's race is at the new Irwindale track (NHRA) are they going to require front hoop? Wish we did not have conflicting weekends, we need all the races we can get. From your comments I would say that your hot rod ran real well and should be even better after you tweak the weight placement. I think you said before that you have an Ford 8" and they do use a Traclock, I have one in my 8.8 housing. I was unable to make last weekend race as I am still having carb issues when I street tested a couple weeks ago. I will get every thing fixed and running right when I return from back East in July. Almost 2 months with my 4 grandkids, don't get any better for me than that. Best of luck at the ANRA June race & hope to see you at the August race, I will have Danny V nephew in the seat for the last two races. He stepped out of his Jr Dragster a couple of years ago.
