It's already getting bigger, there wasn't much room left in the (admittedly small) pits by Sunday morning. More cars had to pit up in the dirt levels this time. I already do, at the near end under the trees though, just because it's so nice there. The 'Doll was all the way down into the park-like area at the near end of the return road. I think all the small antique meets'll keep getting bigger, and will need to cap their car count (likely with required pre-registrations, and narrowed year limits or style limits, and such) to keep from getting too big to maintain their atmosphere. Which move'll make'em even more desirable. Most folks who run actual nostalgia cars are fed (pun intended) up with NfHRA's moves to squeeze us out of their travelling money shows. Take heart, the local scenes're growing like weeds, and'll keep on growing for exactly that reason. I've gotten no grief over the single hoop (it's 6 point on its own anyway) at any of Forever Four's Antique Nat's I've been, neither Fontana nor the 'Dale. They're pretty reasonable about us slower cars. Wish I could say that about more folks.
I agree with all with you have said. Hope we can have a few more races at tracks with some reasonable operators & be done with the nhra (out of you pocket) cash wagon. What do you think the car count was last Sunday? What is there cut off year for door cars? What was the temp at the track?
Sorry, Kiddies, I've been pretty busy for a bit. Self employment tends to be "feast or famine" most of the time, and I had some time sensitive property work to do as well. Moracing, I don't know 'bout the 1/4 yet, but was taching about 3500 in third at Barona's 1/8. That netted me 81.722 mph on that run. This was also with the left hide lit several times on the run. I think it'll be a whole new story when I get'er tied down properly. Tom, my eyeball estimate would be safely over 100. '75 and older. It was pretty warm in the area, but the strip's back in the canyons, with a steady breeze funneling in from the ocean all day. Didn't notice my sunburn 'til the next day at home (again ). Here's a link for the 'Brick II's build pictures. Perhaps I should start a fresh "build thread", in as much as she's no longer a middie.
Old6 - Dick, car count sounds great for getting cars through 3-4 or 5 times. I know there is a schedule conflict with Eagle Field in Oct, but I am going to get my act together and make that second race. Hope I can talk Mike into bringing both cars over from AZ for some fun. I know you want to make the Eagle Field Race, but if plans change it would be great to have 3-4 HAMBster cars at the fall Barona race. Did you go down on Sat again? Do they let people camp Sat night? Good luck with the car at the June ANRA race. I see that they had 20 cars in the Open Wheel group. See you at the Aug race, I get back July 10.
Cars set up bracket style (radiators, alternators, etc, not needing tow, cool-off, or recharge) can easily get in 8 or more runs at these meets, as they use the 7 primary lanes (out of 9) all day. At these Antique Drags meets one end lane is reserved for towed & crew serve cars, and the other end lane for ongoing tech. If things at Rocky's go like last year, with his car count up, we'll only get in 5 runs per day. But that's still 10 runs for this May, as it's two one day meets in a row. October'll be just the one day, for a likely 5 again. August it is, it'll be good to get together again.
Sounds like a good idea, we need more reports on progress in the "Swamp Works". For example, exactly how are green bricks made and how was the offset rear axle engineered for those who want to know? Low buck engineering is always interesting to the cheap, or should I say frugal, among those of the home built hotrod group.
OK, I'll close this one down, and start a new one. ps. Old28, they always allow Saturday entry to the pits at the Antique Drags meets there. No tech or passes, but you can set up & enjoy the evening.
Thanks old6 for the information on Barona. Will definitely stay over Sat night for the Sunday Oct race.
I had a similar problem with Cuttin' Loose, loss of traction at one wheel.I tried everything. Extra helpings at breakfast, double cheese on the egg and bacon rolls plus extra sauce and still couldn't get the weight over the back wheels. In the end I took the high-tech approach and added 10" into the front of the chassis,(sounds kinky), between the fuel tank and torsion bars which added extra weight to the rear. A bit less air and it hooks up much better.
