:D No thanks I’ll pass on that. I was never a fan even though I grew up in that time.
My tastes ran in a slightly different direction.
    But it’s all good

Fortunately for us, this is a hot rod joint and not a music appreciation site. Both sides of the (concert) isle can be in agreement in our little HAMB community when it comes to the important matters. Party on Garth.

    o_O Garth :D hardly.
More like Elton John and the Rolling Stones, Supertramp and on and on ;):D
The Tragically Hip is another one.
I actually have a pretty wide scope of music tastes but the doors weren’t part of it.

Anyway we certainly do love our hot rods

I'd almost forgotten how it looks! I like the stance. I like the wheels (all three sets, wires and blackwalls, chrome slots and WW's, and painted steelies with WW's and big rubber rake), so it is on. Today is my birthday, I can't think of a better present than having this car this close to being done. On now to wiring, bleeding the brakes and upholstery. By spring, we ride.

Thanks! I love painting. When I was a kid, I was always painting my bikes, wagons, whatever, with whatever left over Rust-O-Leum my dad had under the bench in the shop. ;-) It's still the same thrill, seeing the dramatic change a coat of paint can bring about. I don't have the chops I used to, but this is good enough that color sanding and polish will make it perfect. Got some dust in one of the doors. Why just one and nothing else is odd...

I got started on wiring today. A couple years ago I stripped an old motorhome, about the only thing I could salvage (aside from the 14,000 mile 454 and Turbo 400 I traded for the Dayton wire wheels) was miles of 14 ga. wire in various colors and black plastic wire loom. Yeah, I know, it's modern, but it's going to be all hidden, aside from the short run to the starter, and it's FREE. Everything in the cabin will be behind carpet, or up under the dash, out of sight. It's not as messy as it looks, everything will be bundled up together, wire tied or inside black loom. I'm off to Livonia tomorrow to pick up the 5 8.00x15 Coker whitewalls a friend is giving me, so I'll have a lifetime supply of wide whites.

The tires... I'll use the best two, have a pair of 7.20's for the front and 5 '49 Chevy 15" wheels with Bow-tie hubcaps. What could be more traditional with a 283?

Getting the wiring run. Almost got it finished up today, but Christmas decorating took precedence!

After the shop warmed up this morning I trimmed and tacked the old tan canvas on the top bows, and realized it was a good thing I tore the old fabric getting it off the wood bows. The chop makes the side window opening wrong, and the lowered 2nd bow makes it not fit. It WILL make a good pattern, now I just need to decide what color canvas I'm gonna use!

I also made some rumble lid bumpers from an old tire (old tires make GREAT rubber insulators!) with a hole saw, and am busy tidying up and finishing the wiring. A ground cable and some ground straps and I'll be ready to fire it up this afternoon.

Brian, I see that you ran your wiring down the top of the frame rail. I made a small provision prior to painting my inner fenders, I used panel adhesive to attach loops in-side the body line so that I could run a slightly larger than one inch wiring harness down both sides. Practically invisible and will be cloth covered.

I saw how you did that, and was going to do the same thing, but my block hugger headers would be 1/2" from the wiring loom tucked in that recess. The wiring, where I ran the loom on top of the frame, is equally invisible, and stands less chance of being melted there. ;-)

Well, crap. I got a new ground cable, battery, and finished up enough of the harness this afternoon to crank it over, fully expecting it to fire right up. It cranks over, but no ignition. I have a new, small cap HEI dizzy, which came with no wiring instructions, so of course, I didn't research anything, I wired the red to the coil and the black to ground. Which is wrong. A minute of research informed me that red is switched, black is the coil - side, so, I may have fried the module. We'll see tomorrow. The worst that could happen is that I have to buy another module for the distributor, or another distributor, as I have no idea where I'd get a replacement for that damn thing. I know better.

If at first you don't ignite, fry, fry again.

IMG_3498.JPG IMG_3499.JPG IMG_3498.JPG IMG_3499.JPG Fired up! Only took all day, I'd wired the HEI dizzy wrong, then found I had the firing order wrong, then found I'd missed tightening a fuel line fitting, but once I waded through all those mistakes, it fired right up and sounds really, REALLY good! I'm happy!
