So, today I went to "Muffler Man" and bought two sticks of 10', 2" aluminized exhaust tubing, and had them bend a 90 at one end. I also took home two steel pack "resonators", a handful of clamps, hangers and some rolled tip chrome exhaust tips, and set to making the exhaust.
It's supper simple, no bends, nothing fancy, just straight back under the frame. I hung the pipes first without the mufflers on, and decided they were a needless accessory. The little 283 sounds sweet through the long pipes, a little cackle at WOT, but mellow otherwise. So, the mufflers are going back.
In other news, I got it titled here in Michigan with no sweat, and it's insured, so I'm waiting on getting the pair of '34 Michigan plates I ordered to show up and it'll be a legal beagle!

You're gonna make that t-bird jealous if you keep spending your time on the roadster and the wagon.

Idle speed sounds a little fast.

It won't idle any slower. The idle stops are backed completely off, don't even touch the linkage, and the butterfly's are completely closed (on both carbs). The engine idled that fast in the car it came out of (a restored '65 Malibu SS) when it had a different carb set up, a Holley 650, when I bought it. I dunno...

    Brian,

Really sweet ride. I just showed my wife the video of you taking your wife for a ride. She is looking forward to ours being on the road. Vern still says we're a couple months out. Looks like I might not be in a big hurry - or I need to talk you into coming out when it's ready. I just got home from the local hospital - I fractured my right femur and I have a steel plate from my knee to my hip with 11 screws and a row of staples. 6 weeks before I can put any weight on it. oh well, I guess I can sit and look at in the garage.

Uh oh! How'd you do that? Wheelchair for all that time, or can you be up on crutches? Sorry to hear about that, I hope your recovery goes smoothly, and you get your car by the time you can ambulate!

    Brian,

One of those freak things. I was leaving a restaurant here in Yountville and thought I could take a shortcut under an awning on their covered patio. I didn't get far enough under and my head hit the metal stiffener in the bottom of the canvas - I reacted by pulling back and turning to the right while my right foot stayed planted firmly on the ground. I guess I put enough of a torsional load on the knee and femur and it just snapped apart - a nice 7" spiral fracture.
I'm home and can get around with either crutches or a walker. 6 weeks of healing and then I can put weight on it. I have full range of motion in the ankle, the knee is still too swollen to see - but it should be fine. The timing might just work out perfectly.
    Regards,
    g

Update on the idle speed: Yes, it WAS a little fast. My wife, on the way to our first cruise night last night, said, "It sounds like a vacuum leak". She was right. A MASSIVE vacuum leak (it's too embarrassing to explain what it turned out to be), and I thought the hissing noise was air sucking through the crummy air cleaners! My wife: I think I'll keep her. ;-)

Don’t underestimate the joy of heading to the garage just to stare at it. Good luck with your healing and if your have pt in your future do what they say ;)

I do. Thanks. Spencer sent me a couple pictures with the fenders and the running boards on for a test fit. I'll post them in the thread I started.
