I am using a '65 sbc 283 and am connecting it to a '39 Ford transmission using a Cragar aluminum transmission adapter (bell housing for 3 bolt starter). The lower half of the flywheel is exposed in the front. There are no holes in the lower half of the Cragar and no holes in the bottom rail of the block for a flywheel shield. I'm not too excited about just leaving it open. I could made a flat shield and sandwich it between the starter on the p***enger side and the lower block bellhousing bolt on the driver's side , the figure out something to dampen the vibration. I really don't want to drill the adapter but I'm not locked into this if it's the real solution. Anyone dealt with this issue and what was your fix? Thanks

You're gonna have to drill the adapter to mount a cover to it. The adapter looks like this?

If you want to buy something, you could get the block plate for a ****tershield, perhaps? but it would have lots of extra bolt holes, and would look funky

Looks the same. I was thinking I might need to drill and tap a couple of holes in the lower section and one on the upper driver's side below the block rail. Thanks for the quick reply

I have a Wilcap adapter that's the same way and I made a cover out of sheet metal, drilled some pilot holes and used self tappers to attach it.

10-24 or 12-24 screws.. don’t use fine threads in aluminum.

I used to make them out of 12 Gauge aluminum. Made a pattern, sawed it out on the band saw, drilled an tapped holes in the bellhousing, Used co**** thread SS ****on head screws with anti seize.
