Hi all, My name is Gavin and I've been checking out the boards for a while and decided to register. I don't know much, so hopefully I'll learn a lot. I've loved cars as long as I can remember. I'm a high school physics teacher, which is cool because its one of the classes where you can talk about horsepower and torque and have it fit... I'm a Chevy guy, right now I have a 66 Caprice that I blew the engine on, and is sitting in front of the house. I also have a 65 Caddy Sedan, that the wife wanted, but she never drives it. The more I look, the more I'm getting in to the older Chevys, in the 50-54 range. One of these days, maybe I'll have the time and space to start one of those projects. I don't expect to post much, probably questions mostly, since I have a lot to learn, and not much to give... but this is a great place.
I'd sell the caprice and buy a 53 chevy. Those 65-68 cadillacs are my favorite... slammed with some astros and they look perfect.... and they do donuts really well. Welcome.
I agree, but...The problem with selling the Caprice is that it is my first love. I remember in high school, my buddy's next door neighbor had one, and I would go by it every day and dream of eventually getting one, so when I got to the point in my life where I could afford to start throwing $ into something, I got it. I still love it, and I haven't had it long enough to give it up yet... that and I still have a lot of learning to do before I move on.
Sharp cars you've got. I agree, you need to lose the hood on the Caprice. By the way, what's it got for a engine and trans? Looks like big block flags on the front fender.
Apparently, the owner before the guy I bought it from was using it as a street racer, and did have some sort of a big block in it...until he got it impounded. He had also taken out all of the heating and A/C, as well as removing the front inner fenders, which it still needs. Anyway, he sold it without a motor and tranny. So the guy I bought it from put a 350/350 from his 71 Monte Carlo into it. It ran fine, but has a 4.56 rear end (again, the street racing), which, coupled with my driving it on the freeway on a day that was a bit warm, led to catastrophe. So, there it sits in front of the house, waiting for me to get some $$ together to do something about fixing it.
