I got this today out of a field in West Texas and would like to know the best way to start working on this engine without screwing something up. Should I soak everything in lubricant before trying to take it apart? Is it an engine worth messing with? The code on it is 81A-6050.
pull the plugs out and pour ****** fluid down in the cylinders and probaly down the intake let it sit all winter Thats a good start,be sure to make everything on dis***embly
That block is an early block at least 1940 or earlier. Also if the engine has been setting open like that it will most likely be stuck. Try doing as Noland said or try pouring kerosene in it.
I would too. I wouldn't wait an entire winter to start tearing her down. Take some magic snake oil and drop it down the throat of that engine if you're terribly worried about it and then start breaking her down. I'd guess she's prolly gooey as hell inside, even if she's stuck. Oil's used to use a lot of parafin......could be a blessing in disguise. She should have a couple of valves open, they're prolly the culprits. Start jerkin her chain, you'll never know til you do.
