Thanks again for the invite, in the little spare time I have I truly dig the HAMB. Now down to business.... Now that Minnesota winter has begun to rear it's ugly head I'm looking to get my engine swap done. I have an 88 2wd 302/AOD combo from a basically free F150 just dying to go under the hood. Has anyone dealt with this swap before? I see Butch's has motor mounts, but what I don't know is.... -will the trans/drveshaft clear the tunnel? (we're low in the back) -any ideas on what oil pan to use? 2wd truck pan looks ok -exhaust manifolds? -anyone ever hear of this 15" 0r 17" firewall to k-member measurement?, butchs asks for it for mounts, speedway doesn't Many thanks in advance for any advice ya got, I've done a ton of searches and have book marked a lot, but I'm still wary PS got the camera ready, will post a ton of pics
Look up Ms.Peanut's(aka Maria) earlier posts here there are some pics here that she posted. Also send her a pm she told me about the mounts and oil pan at the Sinners' party but I can't remember what year they were, the headers are Hedman block huggers.
Because 52 and 53 still had the 8cyl flathead 8cyl, I've heard you have to use a rear sump pan on the engine and you might have to do some mod to the cross member. As far as mounts I think you can use the three parts from Speedway - there's the mount for the motor then the round rubber with studs on both ends then the crossmember mount for the 52. If I get a chance later today, I'll look the part numbers for you. Ive seen a couple with 302's done around here and they used the 302 mounts but did some mods on the crossmember. This reminds me to do a post about Clifford Headers for the 215/223 in the 52 53
Ms. Peanut didn't have anything......... Anyone else got any info? thanks again, Howie oh yeah, I was going to stick with the I6, 3speed, but the new house rule is that all new projects are wife-friendly. AKA auto trans, power brakes/steering. she mentioned A/C....... I told her that there is plenty of air flow coming in through the rust holes so no need to retrofit and ruin the car.........
The oil pan you want is the later Mustang Fox body dual sump this will clear the center crossmember on a 52-53,1954-56 require a front sump pan.
The double sump pan will clear the cross member but you won't be able to use the stock steering linkage. I retained the stock steering in my 54 but used an early mustang front sump pan. not sure what your plans are for the steering.
i put a 390 in my 53. I made a box in the fron crossmember for the stock 390 pan and that works good. Since I used an early round bell housing C6 it cleared the firewall nicely But later ******s with a sloped bell housing will have to have firewall clearance. I used stock exhaust manifolds which worked like it was made for it. As with many engine swaps it is a put it in take it back out deal. Also I dont know if you know it but it takes about 30 bolts and the whole front end comes off!! Fenders, faciea etc.
not done a 52 but if your motor mount plate on your frame is like my55 i used the 80 up truck mounts went right in the original bottom hole. who ever had done my swap before i bought the car made something with the original mounts and i didnt like it . i was going to post a pic. but i dont have a atachment option . ill see if i have them in photo bucket
old lady's mad: Use Image Shack. Please see Scott's (Skoh73) latest instructional post on posting photos on this site. I just bumped it to the top for you. It's easy, but you gotta know how it's done in order to do it.
Brockman Mellow Tone (the muffler people) has a kit for putting a 302 into a 52/53 Ford. Don't know anything about it www.brockmancustomparts.com
