Hope I wasn't premature in starting a new thread in the Trad Hot Rod forum. I didn't know if it was "open for business" or not, but it looked SO empty that I thought it was the perfect time to start a project thread for my coupe. I'm not an "ol-timer" around here and don't post a lot, but I think i get what the site's focus is supposed to be. Hopefully, my car will end up being a good representation of what a "Traditional Hot Rod" Model A highboy from around 1960 would look, sound, and drive like.

I'm excited about the changes. I've often thought the HAMB was like walking through a swap meet where all the vendors parts are in one big pile...where you sometimes have to wade through a bunch of crap to find that cherry part you've been looking for. Now, the vendor spaces are separated a little, and I'm REALLY happy to see that. I hope the beta forums stick around permanently!

Rich, there are SO many bad things you could have gotten, while drunk on the North Side. Good going, man!

Ryan.. I have a more "mechanical" question about the change..

Will our current thread subscriptions be re-pointed to their new resting place automatically?
The answer may have been in the mass of posts here somewhere. If so... sorry.

Yeah, they will stay intact... No matter how many times we move these threads around. :)

    My head hurts from thinking!:)

I'm currently imaging the number of people that must think my head hurts cuz it's shoved so far up my ass...

  9. I lurked here for a while and then was on fire for a period of time and loved the HAMB but there for a time every other post was a flamer and I got tired of it. My 40 got further and further away. Pretty soon it became a storage shelf in the garage. ( not the HAMB fault)

This March I picked up a 57 Chevy truck and the fire was back. I grew up in the 60's and 70's, I'm going on 58. I am building the truck in the 60's hot rod style. The 235 is staying along with the original front end. No street rod but a hot rod. This truck will not fit here anymore.:(

I'm working on the 40 as a tail dragger. ( got the spark back ) It should be OK.

The split looks like it will keep from having to wade through 16 pages in a day to find what you saw in the morning, that I like.

One last thing. Can I still bring my 57 to the HAMB Drags?

Thanks Ryan for all you have done

I liked things as they WERE, one big happy Forum. I'm more into Hot Rods than Customs, but having their own Forums will cause a lot of nice threads to be lost and never read but guys into one and not the other. Bob

Sometimes i think it's been too late....too late, because a lot of guys who are hard-core, dyed in the wool traditional hot rodders have either left or stopped posting here. And from talking to them at shows, I can understand why. For some time the HAMB was allowing all kinds of cars and threads that had nothing to do with the topic...the "gospel" as we know it.

I know people who have been accused of "creating drama" because they "called out" what was not traditional on a thread.... they got blamed for not posting something warm and fuzzy that wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings. So, these guys, who were full of knowledge, just quit posting.....some said the site wasn't traditional enough.

I might get blamed for creating drama just for this post. But, what do you do when you see a bunch of 1-800 parts thrown onto a car, etc etc, the list goes on and on....is that really trying? ? ?

I's still the only site more intensely geared toward traditional hot rods and everything related....

    (send me a PM )

I want to address this one... Because I hear about this "drama" on the HAMB ever so often, but I never see it and it never gets reported... So where is it? Shoot me a link... I'll delete it.

As for guys that have given up on me, I'm ok with that. I didn't build this joint to make everyone happy. I built this place to make a pretty specific group of folks happy... The folks I hang out with at the Revolution that truly love this old stuff, but aren't snooty about it and don't take themselves so seriously that they would need to call someone out or quit posting on a forum because they got called out. That's all really petty to me... and I just don't think I want to host the folks that are like that.

At the end of the day, I'm not working for traffic or money or fame or infamy or any of that small stuff. I'm working for a legacy. Something my kids can see when I'm gone and say, "Dad did it right and for the right reasons."

And to me, those right reasons are preserving this tradition of ours. Part of that is the HAMB being a place for people to learn and teach. And a place where folks are "called out" and "bagged on" is not a place where that can happen.

  15. So do you ask questions such as the marine exhaust thread and buick hub thread in the hot rod forum. Or Do those go in general discussion?

I'm working on that now... But I think for now, you can ask those questions if they are technical in nature.

    I have 3 points.

    1. Ryan used the word "spunky" twice in one day.

    2. We have finally gone truly global. Congrats to Thommo as the first Aussie moderator. Congrats to Skip and the General too. Good choices.

    3. Last one is a question/suggestion. Will there be a search all forums function? I reckon that would be a good thing when searching for threads that may fall close to the line between the 3 main categories.

  20. And it's traditional to respect your elders. Rather than look at pictures or listen to re-told stories, he lived through that era and saw it first hand. So at 76 speak your mind, you deserve it and it's entertaining as hell !

I dont see why everyone is acting like the sky is falling. I think it will be easier to find what I'm looking for now.

I think another section would be perfect. I know you said that you think of drag cars as hot rods, but what if you added another section for drag cars only. I know that there are a lot of guys who think the cutoff should be way before 65 when race cars were land speed and dry lakes cars and drag racing was new, and the drag guys tend to like the later years up to 65 when innovation was king.

Now this is easy for me to say because I have no idea how hard it is to do these changes, but if you ever thought about it nows the time.

I've been trying to keep quiet and let it all settle down, but wanted to
    comment on this one ...

The way I read it, your truck would be just fine on the General Discussion forum.

Hell, it even damn near fits this comment from Ryan ...

"Let’s say a guy is building a really bitchin’ and traditionally styled race car hauler for his FED. It’s not a hot rod and it’s damn sure not a custom. It is, however, something I find pretty damned interesting… so it stays on the H.A.M.B. in the General Discussion forum."

It is going to be bitchin', right? :)

I'm excited about all this. That being said, I'd really dig a drag cars section...

  26. Just shooting for late 60's early 70's look. That is when I was young and fell in love with cars. The 40 Chevy is why I came to this site. Thanks for the thought

That is a big deal to me. Being able to look at all the new posts since the last visit but exclude the classifieds. The one main forum allowed for that in a fashion.

If I had to guess my current car is under the definitions that exist a Custom more then a Rod but I still have a interest to learn about the tech surrounding the Hot Rod portion of the site, expressly the flathead guys doing cool stuff.

I am on board with removing the glass cars and speedway builds. But I am more then OK with brookville parts being used to restore/rod a original body. Guess everybody's line in the sand is a bit different.

  28. Just to be a Devils advocate, if we need a drag car section, do we need a roundy-round section?

My guess is that we need simplicity at first, then?

  29. My God...let it play out folks; it's been what? 13 1/2 hours since this was unveiled.

In other news, the Biblical Book of Job has been renamed the Book of Ryan.
