I wouldn't mind a set for my '55. When the fog rolls in down here it can get 'exciting' driving to rodding events. I had a set of Guides on a '37 Chev years ago that I wired up as indicators.
Anyone got more pics of amber foglights on hot rods and a source to find them re-pop or otherwise? I was thinking they may look cool on the front of my A along with some nerf bars. And yes, I know the radials need to go. New wheels & tires are on the list as well.
One just seems more utilitarian to me while two seem more decorative. Either way, I love them on an early Ford. JH
Here's a pic of mine although they have covers when this pic was taken...I use landing light bulbs..They will almost burn the paint off the trunk of a car if I follow too close.
I love foglights on '36s. Dad's 3 window... My 5 window... Harrison, what was that one light club name someone came up with last year? Brotherhood of the Single Fog or something?
Here's mine.... a "King Bee".... bought it off ebay .... 2 for $40.00, uses a 4412A seal beam from NAPA....
Can't help with pix, but I agree that fog lights are like wipers, if you live in a fog-prone area or travel a lot, then it is nice to have them when you need them. Otherwise, you drive double-blind. One observation about installation.... way back in the 60-70's if you put fog lights on your car you were required by most state laws to install them in such a way that they would not operate at the same time as your regular head lights. The reason being that fog lights are meant to disperse the light and reduce the bounce-back flare. Having them on with your low beams achieves nothing at all. Same approach with driving lights of the era, you were not to use them ICW your high beams. But of course no one does that now, eh? Personally, I think modern lights are more than enough for most situations, but if I used some fog lights I'd use two of them and wire them up to extinguish the head lights when in use. Also of interest, when I was in the Army in Germany back then, a single red rear fog light (same 55W bulb as a fog light) was very popular with "Rally" fans everywhere. It came on when you used your front fog lights (and your tail lights also stayed on). One of the most common accidents in fog (or even heavy rain) happens when an idiot driving too fast rear-ends a slower car. The rear red fog light works WONDERS in making your car visible to anyone behind you in the fog - from a LONG way off. When I returned stateside I had them on all my cars. Try it, you'll like it. Might be good for a "utility or commercial" look for your pickup. Interesting... Gary
i have been shopping europe for lighting hardware for my 38 topolino project....quite a "different" selection of lites to be found over there..including tons of "fog" lites...i have purchased a set of headlamps from a 1934 Citroen Traction Avant...think they'll give the lil beast a different then the norm look........being older then the car is, would that make them "EUROPEAN TRADITIONAL"?????????..........TK
Meatball said I needed a set on the Burb to add some color. I agree, so I'm casually looking for a set. An old pair, not repop or billet. <---------- see what I mean?
mine are repop but they are nice and the size I wanted....most the ones Ive seen at swap meets, are 6 volt & rusty plus I only paid only about $100 for these
I've been thinking about fog lights, but it's a slippery slope... next thing I'll be bolting on skirts, curbfeelers, reflectors, sunvisors and dummy spots.. don't want my car to end up on the cover of the JC Whitney catalog.. hahaha..
i've been using e bay, advanced search...check for any place when prompted for what area..biggest headache is figuring what to look under after that for certain types...takes some paitence to find things......pm me if you need more help..........don't wanna hi-jack this thread...... to stay on topic, some look better with a single, some with doubles as i look thru here...not sure if my topo has "room" to spare for more then 2 lights up front............
Fog lights are COOL. They make the case for a FUNCTIONAL accessory. My '37 will get one, maybe two.....maybe even 23 of 'em if I'm listening to Quadrofenia.
Damn I really like the looks of those amber fogs! Only wish I had a bumper on my 34 to mount them on.
-On my roadster I've run an N.O.S. 40's Super Ray Cross Country driving light with the crown on top for several years. It is the "only" thing on the car that that might not be needed, although it helps when driving late at night. -I also have an N.O.S. set of "original" King Bee fog lights w/original boxes and a beautiful, rare, Appleton-Lorraine fog light....the one that has the spine running down the top. ...........Mike
I run my single whenever the headlights are on. It looks great, IMO. And it's helps the hockey mom's know which lane I am in when they are tired after watching their kids practice for 2 or 3 hours.
if there clear i would call them driving lights and 60's model pony cars look good if ya mount them in the lower valance be them round or rectangular I had square ones in my old 68 camaro i have round ones fabed into the grill of my 52 dodge pickup looks real sweet. I like the 2 light set up you know the balanced look Chuck
