I found a pair of cool BLC fog lights that match the BLC headlights on my deuce truck. They use a single element Harley Davidson 12 volt bulb. I researched and a dual filament bulb is not available. I'd like to use them as running lights. Is there a way to wire them so they function as a running light and interrupt the circuit on each side thru my turn signal switch to make them flash? I've wired lots of 32's but never crossed this bridge so I need help. Thanks
You could run accessory power to each light through the NC points on a 2 position relay; one relay for each light. Then wire the turn signal output from the TS switch to each the relay coil. Now when you select the turn signal it will energize the relay and open the NC points turning the normally on light off then back on when the realy de-energizes.
Gary, I had BLC fog lights on my Deuce pickup, It's been a while but I recall I rewired the lights with a double filament pig tail sockets, I also scrapped the 6 volt seal beam fog lights and found some amber lens to replace the sealed beams. It worked out great, turn signals & running lights. HRP
How does this work the turn signals when the driving/fog lights are off (daylight)? Also, doesn't the dual filament park/turn bulbs keep the park (low intensity) filament on during turns and flashes the turn (high intensity) filament on and off? This can be done with single filament bulb using a diode and resistor (in the park/running light leg) to provide a lower voltage to the bulb. Turn signal goes directly to the bulb wire.
My plan was to have the running lights come on when the truck starts and run any time the motor is running. I thought about the dual filament pig tail but haven't found anything yet that works and is bright as I'd like. These lights have the 3 pin Harley style bases for the bulb. These are not sealed beam but have a reflector with the original BLC script amber lens. My search has just begun.
Dinosaur, no pictures. Harley Davidson part # 68715-64 No longer available from Harley. I found mine on E-Bay. Just looked and there's one for $44 plus the ride. Currently I have 3. Fairly large bulb with a flange with 3 holes that lock on to pins in the reflector.
Here's another way to wire this where it won't matter if the 'running' lights are on or not for turn function. A couple more relays and some rewiring will be needed, but nothing too complicated... It depends on if you want to keep the stock style of bulb (are they a clear lens?). You can buy some cheap leds or 6v ones just for the ring and make you own with another style socket pushed in. 12v replacement bulbs: https://www.memotronics.com/box-of-...htbulb-rp11-dc-prefocus-base-12-8v-35w-23-4w/ https://vintageautogarage.com/1026-upgrade-lamp-12v-2-pack-upgrade-from-32-32cp-to-50-32cp-1026-2/ https://vintageautogarage.com/1044-miniature-lamp-12v-2-pack-1044-2/ https://vintageautogarage.com/1074-miniature-lamp-12v-2-pack-1074-2/ Make your own with whatever base these bulbs fit: Bulbs: https://vintageautogarage.com/1120-...-pack-upgrade-from-21-21cp-to-50-32cp-1120-2/ https://vintageautogarage.com/1124-...-pack-upgrade-from-32-32cp-to-50-32cp-1124-2/
The HD bulbs are clear with amber BLC lens. The lens need the reflectors behind them so everything stays tight and dry. I did check Speedway and they have a variety of plug in dual filament sockets and several sizes of dual element leds I want these bright.
The base is P15d30. LED versions. https://www.ledlight.com/p15d-30-led-headlight.aspx Or made your own with just the bases: http://www.autolumination.com/wirin...s/bay/P15d-30-steel-headlight-socket-base.htm
I ordered a pair of the leds suggested above. Now it should be as easy as changing the pigtails to a double filament, getting them aligned with the bulb and doing the wiring? Thanks for the help. I'm leaving the truck at the shop I use and heading to Pomona for the LARS and shop tours so they'll have a couple weeks to do the job plus other updates.
Final report. Shit canned the LED's and went with the Harley 12 volt dual element bulbs. Got everything wired into the existing turn signal switch. Now have running lights and turn signals in the front of the deuce pickup. Local guy saw me the other day when turning a corner commented (if they can't see you coming they're blind) Mission accomplished.
