Follow me along and help me get a 34 roadster ready for a wedding!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris, Jan 14, 2012.

  1. OK, so if you guys saw my post about getting a new 34 roadster a few weeks ago probably saw mentioned were Jamie wants to drive away from our wedding in this car. Our wedding is Sept. 8th of this year, so I have time but this ol girl needs a ton of work!! My plan is to swap the engine/transmission, convert to juice brakes and get the stance right, clean it up best I can and go. My friend Logan is going to help me with some of the rust repair, and it will remain in primer and a highboy until I can really take my time with it and paint it/put the fenders and such on. I have a small budget to get this done, so a lot of it will be creative thinking :D

The car is half restored and what is there, is very nice! I got it running and driving right after I got it...and then tore it all apart. I sold the engine, transmission, exhaust, mechanical brakes and the tire/wheels. I am building a 59AB with a Merc crank, Winfield cam, Thickstun intake with two 97's and a couple nights ago got a nice fat bellied 39 trans from a buddy of mine.

    Heres what I started with

    And here is is now

Hamber Kidzinda34fordor had a set of wheels that I traded him out of, and I dressed with genie 41 caps and rings and will be wrapped with some 5.00/7.00 Firestones I bought from Jeffrey James to roll it down the road.

Heres the engine I am putting together. I was building it for my pickup, but decided to run it in the roadster and I have another nice 59AB to run in the 33 pickup. It's gonna get painted red.

The car is getting juice brakes, dropped axle and some spring work. I have a plated wishbone and a set of backing plates.

The dash was chromed long ago and then painted. The chrome is pretty crummy, but will work for now. I stripped it off today and set it in the car. It still needs some cleaning and polishing.

I can see the conflict now...

"Honey, I tried to buy my wedding dress today, but the store said the credit card was denied"

"Sorry dear, but I used that money to pay for the engine rebuild. We don't HAVE to get to get married in September, do we?"

I'm down for helping anyway I possibly can. Let me know what else I can keep and eye out for brother!!! Glad that Wishbone is going to work out as well. That was a nice score.

That axle sure is dropped!!! Do you need that chromed? I might know a guy.... :D

Please please PLEASE shoot that car in flat black primer. Not that I don't love flat black because the lords knows I do but I will just have a ton of ammo concerning you and rat rods for years to come!!! Can we do a Iron Cross with "Just Married" on the decklid? Maybe Spiderwebbed tail lights or cup holder?

I'm really looking forward to following along with your roadster project, Chris! Looks like you have a solid plan and some nice parts to go in/on it.

Be sure and take a good picture of the master cylinder kit installed and tell everyone how bitchin' is. LOL!

  26. In an early 1900's grange hall up North

  27. What do you think it would cost to plate the axle? It's not pitted at all...

  28. I will ;), I was really impressed with the one in my 33 pickup. ALMOST makes converting to hydraulic brakes fun :D

  29. No, going on the honeymoon AFTER the flathead run ;)

Great idea to use for the wedding! I had the same idea on my 33 3w... I didnt make it though. :( In fact i still have never finished the car, i just moved on to other cars. However my brother restored a 28 phaeton to use in his wedding. It adds a nice touch to the wedding.
