  1. Those locking gas caps were dealer accessories but mine is a repop.

I think you should bite the bullet and use the ponchos... I know you'd tuck em in a bit, but I think those deuce tailights on stands look like too much monkey business hangin' out there.

  3. Call me a "restorer" but I just don't wanna put a hole in that thing. It is original and absolutely MINT. I do not want the lights there in the end...so why punch holes in it that will not be permanent. I may buy an aftermarket panel I can cut up if I go this route...

I don't like either choice if that's an option. I think the '50 Ponchos's don't fit that tail pan as well as a say a '48 Chevy. The '50 Ponchos are awesome but I like them better on a Model A or '32 something with a tall tail pan.

I'm using '39 chevy tail lights on my '33 mounted to sides of the frame I think but maybe '37 Ford if you don't want to cut a hole.

Also I thought blasting leaf springs was a big no no because it makes them brittle due to the heat. or no?

  6. Never heard that one...anyone have any info?

I quite agree with JJ on this one. I think the Ponchos are a tad too big to look good on a Model 40 tail pan. The '48 Chevy lights would look killer on there however.

I'd like to know about blasting the leaf springs issue as well. I was planning on doing that myself..

  8. Anyone have any input on sandblasting the spring? I do not know how much heat sandblasting would cause...can't be much but I am no expert. I can do it myself with a wire wheel on my grinder...but I would immagine that would cause some heat, too.

  9. I've sandblasted leaf springs with no adverse effects.
The only thing I could think of that sandblasting might harm would stress relieving the metal so the springs MIGHT not have the tension they had previously.

Hell yes. I will hold you to that one.

I've had leaf springs sandblasted without a problem. I know many others that have as well. Go for it.

Chris I think the '32 tail lights fit the aesthetic of your car better than the '50 Pons, and I agree I wouldn't cut into that panel either. I'm going to need to section a '32 radiator shell and won't do it to a real one. Oh, just picked up an original Sharp 2x2 intake , its quite nice but I'm probably going to go with new Sharp heads, don't want any "old shit" issues.

  13. Sweet! Yeah, as much as I like old original stuff...heads can be a real pain in the ass :D

  14. I'll be there, already got the time off work and thats the biggest hurtle!!! I'm getting SUPER amped to go...always wanted to do a long trip in an old roadster!!

  15. I have those exact ones, but I love all the different style bezels that are available for those lenses. Probably my favorite taillights of all time.

You live a charmed life Chris I wish you well in your endeavors!

  18. I started running fuel lines tonight. Got the back 1/2 done, and hooked to the tank. It was kind of a bitch, had to keep pulling the tank down to check for line clearance.

Also, I moved the lights back and they look a ton better. I think I am going to go this route...will suite the car well and work.

Lights are super that way. You ask a few questions but you normally give yourself the correct answer because you understand this hobby!

  21. Got the rest of the fuel line installed and ready to go.

I also figured out the perfect spot for the lights. The rear shock mount hole, and a hole behind that (I assume fender brace mount hole) lines up perfectly with the 32 tailight stands. They look really good positioned there and achieve the goal of not modifying anything to make them work

hey, they didnt have flaired fittings on fuel lines in the late 40s, it should be compression fittings and copper fuel line:):)

Yeah Chris, you should have used the copper coated steel line Carpenter's sells. That's just pure laziness. Have you got an electric Holly Fuel Pump in the trunk as well?

I like the tail lights better in that location.

I'm still seeing 1948 Chevy Tail lights in the rear of that car though. I think the ones you have on there are cool for now but once those fenders go on, I think the '48 Chevys are the clear winner.

  25. What about 1954? ;)

I would have run copper line, but I all I hear is how bad it is to run copper fuel line (even though my 33 has copper from the tank to carbs :D)

The truth is, 25% of this car right now is just to "get by". I plan on pulling the car down to the bare frame and basicly restoring it when I paint it and put the fenders one in a year or 3. Don't get me wrong, I'm trying to do the best I can, but things like plumbing, lights, interior, ect. is just to get the thing on the road.

  26. Sorry man, polls closed on the lights with fenders. It's getting those pontiacs slapped on em! I LOVE pontiac lights in fenders, dunno why more people don't do that??

That heating thing is only for welding leafs, nothing wrong with blasting.
