  1. Picked these up from a friend yesterday...was gonna run two of em but now I dunno. The carbs I built for this thing are REALLY NICE...these are nice carbs, but I dunno if the old chrome really flows with the rest of the engine.

"it should be compression fittings and copper fuel line" most auto manufactures had steel fuel lines from the get!

That trio really need a 3x2 intake. Don't split up the family! Maybe down the road when you get fenders on that thing, you can switch over to a 3x2 and run them. Right now that engine is spot on and nothing needs to be changed!!!!

  4. Chris, for what it's worth, I vote you stay with the carbs you have on it currently. They just 'fit' the build better, in my opinion.

You can always sell them to me if you don't want them. ;)

  9. Is it because of the offset generator?

  10. No, it's because for the most part they run like shit.

  11. Ah, well that's a better reason than mine.

I prefer to see a motor set up like yours vs 3 with a offset gen....not really sure why. I guess it "feels/looks" more balanced.

  12. looking great Chris, keep the updates coming. Fuel lines look just great, fun thread ! .

  13. Got a ton done today...had the day off work :D Started off with a visit to my good friend and fellow Emperor Darryl. He runs a shop called Gunner Productions. I needed a dropped tie rod made..and I do not have a way to bend up thick wall tube nor a 1/2" L and R hand tap so he helped me out. I also took him that Eelco panel and he finished welding it for me (I cannot weld aluminum). It still needs a little clean up work and then polished!! Thanks a ton D-rail!!!!

Anyways, got home and mocked the front end up with the new drag link and tie rod, everything works very well! I reversed the eyes on the spindle arms and took them to my Dad as he is going to ream the new king pin bushings. Worked on the shifter, it's getting close. I also popped some nice front hubs out of some junky drums I had, cleaned em and popped the old races out for new ones. These are for brand new brakes drums I have had for a couple years...

I think I like the shape of that shifter the most out of everything. That's pretty slick! Looking good!

  15. Thanks dude, I keep polishing on it, wanna get it plated!

Here's a thought, how about getting it cadmium plated, or maybe just take it to the brass plating step in the chrome process and just shooting clear on the brass?

    Chris,

The roadster is really comming together well. The accessory instrument panel re-worked to fit the dash is a really nice touch!

I find it interesting, though, that you needed an offset in your tierod. My Dad's roadster is using a heavily dropped '33-36 axle, a reverse-eye 7 or 8 leaf spring and a 59A engine set up with the "U" adaptors on the motormounts and his car has NO interference problems between the tierod and anything.

  18. Thanks Dennis!

The tie rod would hit the bottom of the front crossmember in a turn, that is why it needed dropped. I made one for my pickup for the same reason. Weird your Dad's does not need one...

My A also had one as the tie rod hit the oil pan.

The good news is these are built out of VERY thick wall tubing. Way stouter then Ford's flimbsy original .

  19. Big day today guys! Long time coming but we got her fired and she lit right off and ran awesome! Other then a leaky fuel line we had to fix, it had zero problems and even charges! Has excellent oil pressure and ran very well while the cam broke in. Thanks to my ol man for building me such a bitchin lil mill!!!!

(dunno why it's so grainy but you get the idea...)

  20. So I cleaned up the garage and mocked the front end under it. Lit it off again and backed it into my alley for a lock one level ground. The back is going down 3-4" and the front another inch.

I think it looks great but your lowering will help a lot. Lights look good there but I hope people can see them. Engine sounds great, can't wait to hear my own!

Very cool Chris. I like the Deuce tail lights. It really sounds great and idles beautifully. If you are like me you have probably started it up for no reason other than to hear it start. Such a great feeling!!

  27. Thanks guys, I am still thrilled on how effortlessly she fired and everything actually worked LOL! I'm still plugging away, gotta get the front end painted and under it, then the brakes. Then it'll be shakedown run time ;)

  28. For those following along, I had asked way back if anyone knew of a good upholsterer here in town that did pretty cheap work. This car came with most of the interior, but the bottom cushion was new and needed covering. The rest of the upholstery was 40+ years old, so I knew it was not going to match. I wanted the bottom cushion close, but it didn't have to be perfect. Thats why I was looking for cheap :D I want to redo the interior another color down the road.

So a old guy friend of mine Rich comes into my work all the time, and he's into cars. I asked if he knew anyone and he gave me a guy named Don's number. I called Don and he gave me an address and the next day I took both top and bottom cushions to him.

I almost didn't leave it with him...he works from home and he was in a "bad" part of town. His "shop" is a one car garage with a lean-to built on the side and the whole inside opened up into one large room. But he was a super nice guy and said he had been doing seats his whole life and works at a boat shop during the day doing seats for boats. He told me 125.00 would do the bottom ,and he would fix a couple small tears in the top. I picked a close color and off I went. I have to admit...I was skeptical of how nice it would be...even worried I would never see that seat again! Don called me last night and said "I got it about done...the two parts didn't match that well, so I went ahead and did the top part, too. It was an extra yard of material, so it'll be an extra 11.00...call it a wedding gift".

I was excited and scared at the same time. Tonight I stopped by, and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was! He did a great job and it is very quality work!!!!! So I got home, set it in and put the door/kick panels in. The color is close, not exact (it's a lot closer in person then in the pics) but totally what I expected. I mean, the old green is way older then me!! Man I'm stoked, it's starting to look like a car again!!!

Seats looks good dude. It's not far from "done" that's for sure!

  30. I'm gonna angle the dash to get the perfect "up the skirt" reflection!!!
