By far my most favorite Steering wheel of all time. Is that one NOS? Sure looks it!

Wiring looks good too! This is really coming together? Why is it you're not messing with quarter patch panels yet?

  3. It's been re-vulcanized...so restored. A guy in my V8 club had 2 done for his 46 coupe he did concourse. One white and one black. He kept the white one for his car and I traded him out of this black one. I had the horn ring, it is super nice and pit free! I had it in my 41 until I found that Crestliner wheel.

Logan is gonna help me with the patch panels, and neither him nor I are ready to do that yet. I wanna get it back running/driving and for the weather to get warmer so I can get it to his house before I start screwing with it.

Ahhh, ok that makes sense! Is it just those quarters that need attention right now? That'll be real quick work if that's the case. My '35 needs to be rechopped but I'm going to learn how to torch weld before I get into that because it's something I always thought was fascinating to see others do. I'll also be enlisting some help to make sure I don't ruin it.

The steering wheel is beautiful dude. Truly amazing wheel.

Everytime I see your shift knob I want to eat it. It looks like a Christmas cookie my grandma would make.

Phillips head screws weren't invented until the late 1930's I know this is a 1950's era build and Phillips heads might have been used but wouldn't slotted screws be more "accurate".

  7. Yes Mike, your eagle eye cought a glitch... That's all I had for sheet metal screws, don't worry they'll be changed to Philips head :D

Someone should tell ScooterMcRad. I've been hitting a wall with him and this issue haha!!! :D:D:D

Wait don't you mean they'll all be changed to Flathead screws? I just think they look better anyways. I hate Phillips heads.

  9. Whoops that's what I meant, flathead screws!! Philips heads look all wrong

  10. The Philips head or crosshead screw was first used in the 1936 cadillac and the company was formed in 1934. He had lost his patent by 1949 do to wide spread copying of his design.

Don't really care when they were invented, changed every screw I could to slotted on my 32 and feel they look so much better. For me it's not an issue of period correct I just think it looks better.

  12. Gawd, You guys are starting to sound like restorers. Screw heads? Really?

My favorite part is in these little details!!!! Restoring? Yes!!! Restoring the appreciation of every detail put into these old cars. I just like getting into these little things and it's what stops me in my tracks and keeps me looking at a particular care for a long time. I can't tell you how much time I've logged in looking a restored hot rods and such in coverage from Pebble Beach, Amelia Island and GNRS.

I'm a newbie to building old cars and I have a lot to learn but these details really jump out at me and lure me in every time! Crazy? Yes.

Started a thread about these little details....

  16. No, he had them done. He's outta town (snowbird) but when I talk to him next ill ask who did it

  17. that steering wheel looks killer, I sure wish I could have kept my Crestliner from my 49 Coupe. But it was part of my car deal when getting the 35... I did get some really killer Pierce County "B" plates and earlier ones without the prefix B.. all number matching

Amen, you guys can skin all the knuckles and paint you want.

  19. Well, I may be taking a couple steps backwards...I was looking at a front bearing retainer tonight and I started thinking...I cannot for the life of me remember if I put the seal in the retainer the right way or not. A common mistake is to install them backwards...and I know that...however it is freaking me out that I cannot remember. So, I tried getting the 4 retainer bolts loose tonight to see if I can slip it forward enough to see with a small mirror. I really do not want to pull the engine unless I have to. I got the top ones out pretty cake, the two bottom bolts are a real bitch, but I think I can get them with a little different wrench. If not, out she'll some...better safe then sorry. A buddy of mine toasted a clutch and had all kinds of grief with puking gear lube because of this exact problem..

I cant imagine it makes that big of a deal, Model A's never had a transmission main drive gear seal and they don't burn up clutches... but they sure leak a lot!

  22. Alright, You caught me. I'm guilty too. I was just joking.....(Insert gay smiley face here.)
I do use SS button head allens on alot of stuff though. I like the way they look. If hotrodders would have had them they would have been used.

  23. Yeah, but 37-38 or whatever back they had a spiral slinger to help direct the oil back twards the trans. PLUS, this car will have a rake which won't help matters. I got the engine almost ready to pull on my lunch, just gotta undo the 2 chatter rods and the 8 bellhousing bolts and she'll be out. I could not get those 2 bottom bolts. Oh well, should have it out-in in a hour or 2...

Wiring looks great Chris, nice work!

  25. Welp, got home after work, made some dinner, then went to town. It was pretty strait forward...and worth it. I had indeed installed the seal backwards. Better to find out now instead of when I have gear lube puking out the bellhousing.

    Got her stripped to this:

Pulled it out far enough to pull the retainer off.

This is how I had the seal.

And this is how it is suppose to be

And back to our regular scheduled program

    Looking good!!

  27. Chris, At least you did not screw the seal up after your swapped it around. I would have F-d it up and had to order a new one. Looks good buddy. She might marry you yet. Carry on soldier.

  28. I cheated and bought another seal at work today. I did screw the old one up getting it out.

  29. Look at you being all honest and #$%^! I knew I liked you. Up kinda late for a working man? Looks good. Fun project.
