I've always thougth that Foose looks like Emilio Esteves from that movie "Young Guns". Everytime I watch Overhaulin' and there's a quiet moment on the show, I keep waiting for him to yell out " Regulators! Mount up!" :) :) Other than that, he's cool....:)

i for one like what foose does. he takes things and actually improves it, starting with what's already great on a particular car. a lot of contemporary street rod builders just take **** and ignore what's great about a certain car and just tech it out just for the sake of itself. foose is very sensitive towards a car's lines, and from some of the show's i've seen, also has a certain degree of respect for the tradition certain features represent. and he's always got a great team that knows what they need to do, and do it. now contrast that to that awful show 'pimp my ride' where they take a car and make it absolutely disgusting... or boyd's soap opera... i mean... can you make your shop look any more unprofessional?

..............Chip has his **** together and I am sure that he will only enhance the "ba*****t experience" next year at the Autorama. He will be STOKED at Plowboy's creativity and probably bust a gut laughing with Bleed and the Bad Boyz........
I CAN now see why Boyd hates him though............he didn't box those ****in' rails like Boyd taught him!!!!!

  8. Somebody tell him you mount the firewall on TOP of the frame, oh and it goes BEHIND the engine Foose! At least all the "old school" pics I've seen have em that way!

I have NO problem with what Chip Foose ( or his father ) does . They sure have built Excellent cars for MANY years ..:) :) BUT , after looking at those pix of that frame of his , he left me with a STRONG urge to visit his shop :D
    ( The brake-masterpump-location gave my face a :D )
Why did he cut up that nice X-mbr ?? If all he wanted to was to raise the engine & get road clearance , why not just straighten out the x mbr at bottom to flow with the bottom of the framerails , and then use a `34 gearbox-rearmount riding on top of the Xmbr ? . That way the floor would not have been messed up more than neccessary , And he could have done like it was done on the "Mack-T"-roadster , With the gearbox vissible inside the car ( I love that:) , but thats`me ), AND he still probably could have used stock `32 ford pedal-location ..
By kikking the frame as far as he have done in rear , it will leave him with a not so appealing gap that will be seen infront of the rear wheels ..I take for granted that they will fill that gap with some belly-pan sort-of thingi , but Why not just straighten out the frame so it goes UNDER the rear-axle , and then let it kick up behind the axle to met the fuel-tank ...
The car will end up with a G***er-stance unless they plan to z the frame in front , but from what i saw on those pix , the water-pump inlet was lowered to meet radiator outlets .. ?
SO SORRY if I might sound like some stupid bessewisser ... , But those pix confuses me ... I `m having a hard time figgering out what Chip is up to ..
Wish Chip was a Hambr ..
I will shut up now ... , and take a closer look at those pix ...
Anyway ... THANX For posting ... Can`t wait to see it finished:)

He's prolly laughing at you guys while he reads this.............

  11. Yep, and gets old. There is a faction here that sit high on the mountain and dispurse trash talk under the guise of tradionalism....if you read between the lines they just are not car guys. I come to the HAMB to broaden my understanding of the "gospel". But I sure dont/didnt learn the little I know about real HotRods here. It's not so much that some guys are always punching out how cool they are by preaching their narrow vision....just jealous that something better might creep into thier niche and the comfort zone will go away...God forbid they might actually learn something.

  12. No doubt!.... Chip seems like a guy I could really enjoy talking cars etc. with. I'm not a fan of all the stuff he builds but he is a hell of a talented guy. I don't care for the Overhauling show though I do enjoy seeing Foose's crew seem to have a genuine good time working on stuff and Chip is right in there with them. I'm afraid I'd probably want to punch the Boyd in the teeth after 5 minutes around him from what I've seen on the stupid, badly over dramatised show he has on TV. I'm looking forward to seeing this car done.....

Unfortunately, all I know about Foose is what I saw on TV (back when I had cable). I know that out of the ~20 cars I've seen him build on television, there were only 2 or 3 of them I didn't really like. Considering the span of time some of those were built in (not to mention varying factors like shop, tools, and quality help), a couple of stinkers ain't bad in my book. I also know that he has serious dedication to making unique cars to be able to complete as many projects as he has done. I know he does it all- from fabrication to paint- and still uses some tricks his Dad taught him back in the day. I'm not a Foose fanboy by any means, but I think he's more like us than some people give him credit for.

I agree that this traditional car he's doing will probably be along the lines of Royce Glader's RPU.

Give the young fella a chance Klaz! ;)
Your gonna make a few mistakes on your first traditional build.
    He's a fast learner though.
With what he learns from this build to guide him, his NEXT Rat Rod will be a world beater.
They might even move him up to the TOP floor!!! :D

Too bad he used a repo body though. Would have been more honest to use an original if your trying to make the ultimate nostalgic ride.
Not knocking the repos...they have their place...it just would have worked better as a tie in to the history of Hot Rodding ya know...especially on the level this will be viewed from in both camps.
    (Upstairs-downstairs)

Hmmmm...maybe it was his way to calm the big aftermarket dogs while he does a Hot Rod in the raw. (The roadster...not Foose...I hope! LOL)

Well , if Chip is having fun reading this post , I sure hope he ain`t laughing too loudly about what I posted ... ( I don`t think soo ... )

Even with as little we know from looking at those pix , this post could have become a GREAT post , where we could share ideas & invention ... It`s the "What-if & Why-not"- factor that makes my head spinn ........ Got NO idea why , But building a "****era"-style car out of pre `48 Ford parts only , Well that intrigues me ...

Good for Foose. If I was him, that's what I'd be doing. Can't wait to see it when it's done.

Ryan, I thought that an indoor show would be boring too. Detroit was actually pretty fun. You get to meet some interesting folks. I had a great time but if you give me a 30 pack of beer I could have a good time anywhere.

I stand by my previous statement and will add that he's better than Daryl Starbird and Thom Taylor - and George Barris doesn't even come close.

I think he is the best designer to EVER focus his talents on hot rods.

Yeah what Nick said with a special emphasis on "knowing what he's doing".

Anyone that thinks Chip Foose doesn't absolutely EAT DRINK AND LIVE !!!!! this car thing that consumes nearly everyone on this board obviously doesn't know him or doesn't pay any attention to what is going on out there. This guy doesn't just walk in and give orders....he knows what he wants and he knows how to make it happen and is very "hands on".

I can't count the times I've seen some small thing he has done on one of the cars he has designed and asked myself why the hell I didn't think of that.

I can't wait to see the car.

What a catty bunch of ****holes you guys can be.

You guys ***** about "street rodders" and billet *****s. Then when a guy like Chip steps into your territory you get all bent out of shape, ****!

You're worried about guys like Chip taking rat rods mainstream? Sorry guys thats been done already. We are mainstream just by the evidence found here in the HAMB members list. Tradional hot rodding is strong and getting stronger and only logical that guys like Chip Foose hop on board.

I liked it better when I was 15 building my 72 F100 and looking through JC Whitney at huge Mickey Thompson tires and not caring about being a poser or not.

Well , ... I for sure have enjoyed & Taken up a LOT of ideas from those few you mentioned AMM including Chip... You can nag and ***** as much as you like , BUT,Please : Get real !!
Chip learned from his father ... Without Sam , no Chip ...
Without Thom , Daryl , Barris and a Zillon others who have contributed ....Where would our "hobby" be today ??
I have NO idea , but Chip will probably be the first to admit that he have gained a LOT from their contribution ... ... KLAZ

What is wrong with traditional syles becoming mainstream?
Do we like these styles because we think we need to be different ??
or because we idolize those who created them at the roots?
We...during these new milenium years... are actually making hotrod history.
I tend to believe the newer versions are actually more pleasing to the eye and some more creative.
I wouldn't care if Boyd got involved..the way I see it.... It forces more creativity and
I would have more to ingest.
Sharing space with any of these big names surely wouldn't hurt my feelings..
you know the old saying guys... whats the best form of flattery ?
I'd give anything to go to a show here in Ohio and find 80 % of the cars done in a traditional sense instead of the norm of 20%...
The only issue I have with this is...
it actually raises the cost of these scarce pieces we cherish .

I think too ...I liked it better when i was 17 and driving my cammed 327 down the boulevard in 1969 and didn't give a **** who or what came of big name guys.

I'm not nagging or *****ing here at all. And I'm not trying to slam or minimize the contributions of some earlier builders/designers. I'm just stating what I feel. :D

Its a fact that Chip learned and has drawn influence from many of the legends in this hobby. There's no doubt about that. I also believe that without these pioneers our hobby surely wouldn't be where it is today. I seriously doubt that Chip would deny any of this.

Just because he has been influenced by earlier designers/builders doesn't mean he can't surp*** them in talent as he learns. I still think he's better than any of them.
