    Okay, that's it! :D

I was told there are two bombs in the trunk that are used as fuel tanks. I wasn't ABOUT to pick up that deck lid though!

Very nice! OT but anyone venture a guess on the tire sizes? Getting ready to place an order from Coker and like that combination.

I don't want to guess what the finish is on the hardware without really being able to see it up close. But I've had neat results with sandblasting chrome plated parts then sanding them down with 400-600 grit paper. Kind of a brushed look but not really, the texture frome the blasting breaks it up.

:) Sorry for the delay! Got home from work a little late... was having my new Firestones mounted up! :D :D

I was going to say the fronts looked like 550x16 or 15?? Rear are probably 750x16's??? Just guessing...

Thanks! I was planning on getting the 550x15 and the 750 but the front tire looks more skinny than I was thinking but I like it.

They are 18's front and rear...I'm guessing 4.50's and 7.00's.

Back on topic...blasting after they are plated? Any pics of something you've done this way?

I don't want to come up with too complicated of a method...we are talking about quite a few fasteners on the complete chassis.

Oh man! Don't quote me on that! I'm only guessing and let me tell you... I have SERIOUS corrective lenses!

This is a very good topic... Nimrod is right... I also want to see what things look like plated then media blasted. Maybe nickel plated then hit with glass beads??

I don't have any pictures right now but maybe I'll take some. I'm putting together a bike right now and don't want any chrome. Blasting a few cheap tiawan chrome parts and painting them, a few details I tried sanding after and I liked how they came out.

I should add...the only reason I'm doing this is because I'm a real tight-wad and have never sent anything "out" for anything. I make do with what I can do in my little shop with cheap parts.

And I like Foose's car. Little bit too theme-rod for me, but the details are beautiful and even with the nose cone it's not that bad, I can see what it's supposed to be.

I saw this car in person @ the Concours show @ Art Center School of Design in Pasadena in July=(Chlip's Alma Mater). This car visually has so many cool things going on that I didn't have a digital cam with me, so no pics but I talked to Chip about the steering. That is why this car works visually so low (ck out the tie rods-they go through the rails). The wheels are 18 in keeping with the 1932 theme, The wheel wells have been move up from the original locations & the gauge panel is just beyond belief (I have no ideal how much that cost?) This vehicle was in a coach built show & held it's own against many sleek designs. (This body was put together by Eric Hanson=Scandenavian Street Rods) Eric & Chip collaborate a great deal on many one off tin products.
It wasn't a runner when I saw it in July, Unfortunately I opted out of SEMA as a trip this year, so I didn't see it there,
but I love to know how she runs with the V12.

Did you talk to him at all about how that steering set up with the remote tie rod worked? By this I mean was it streetable, not the mechanisim itself. That is pretty straight forward. Maybe it's not even supposed to work; it's only for show? Please let me know if he talked about driving it or if he planned to in the future. The set up has a lot of possibilities, but I would never build anything to just trailer around (NO $).

Just going by the pictures, the steering box looks like that ceramic header coating...Jet Hot?? I think you can get it in a satin finish too. Of course the hard part is the many hours of metal finishing before it gets applied. The detailing is off the charts.

Chips engineering designs always WORK as far as I know. Look at the crazy configuration of the rear end on his Camaros. The build photos on the steering were in Street Rodder. Pretty bad****. I know our car will get compared to this one. I hope we can come just remotely close!

That frame and engine color isn't any warbird coloration that I know of. Looks nice though.

I hope he paints the body CAMOUFLAGE.

Hat's off to C. Foose. He's living the life. I'm just personally not into the theme thing at all.

Funny, I did a sketch of a windscreen that was very much like that a few years ago. Not military themed, but a duval style with removable wing windows. I had already collected the glass - slightly curved and tempered wing windows from some unnamed muscle car. Damn Chad thinking about it I believe it was actually from a 66 Chevelle - to be turned 90 degrees for my purpose. It was going to be perfect. If I ever own another roadster I suppose I might still build something like that... someday.

I mocked it up a few times but had other more important problems to figure out. The sketch used to hang in my basement - didn't have that cool center panel Foose designed though.

Good design will ALWAYS generate controversy, and this is indeed a good design.

Lockheed's P-38 Lightning was the inspiration for the vestigal 'fins' on the '48 Caddy - along with other styling cues. This kicked off the 'big fin' era, which culminated in the monstrous '59 fins. So - the '48 Caddy was a 'theme' car - one which drew its theme from aeronautical engineering.

Hell, even a trad rod is a theme, man!

  25. i think its paint... looks a hell of a lot like the burner throat rings that we install into our boilers at work, and they are painted. media blasting, then plating would be interesting, but i would think that the plating would just fill all the little peaks & valleys, thus ruining your finish, right? i think brushed stainless looks the most kick-ass ,though.

Yes, good design and controversy sometimes go hand in hand. I get that. But I see a massive leap between pulling inspiration from the design of a particular part of a plane - then using it as a jumping point for a new treatment on the rear quarter of a car like the '48 Cadillac, and sticking the nose cone and exhaust from a P-38 on a Deuce and rebadging it the P-32.

Yes, I know this is not exactly what Chip did. You can't look at the car and not see amazing talent, thought, and passion. The guy does amazing stuff period. This particular car just crosses my own personal threshold is all. Strange huh? Different people having different ideas and whatnot? :)

I've said it before. I hope my theme is always just "cool old hot rod." And if that makes me boring or stale I am completely comfortable with it.

Neal is right on the tires. 7.00 x 18 rear and 4.50/4.75 x 18 front. Steering appeared to be fully functional. Fit and finish was excellent as expected, but things were pretty tight underneath, meaning not much clearance or suspension travel. Some of the design elements are way over the top, as might be expected in a Foose car. Personally, I'd take the Speed Kings Dynamat coupe over the P32 hands down.
