Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by krooser, Jan 28, 2009.

  1. I was searching on google for gay support groups and this web site kept coming up number one.

I saw a guy in Daytona with a HAMB tee and asked him about it and here I am. I mostly read the threads (lurk) that are of interest to me, I seldom post and when I do, I do my best to keep from pissing off the "HAMB Gods". I keep coming back because no other forum possesses the wealth of knowledge that can be had here, for free.

A friend suggested that I post a little about the wife's 64 Studebaker Wagon we put a late model 5.7 Hemi & 5-Speed Auto into (along with many other Restomods)!

  6. I was searching for the Truth, But I found the H.A.M.B. instead. LOL I was searching for info on 42-47 Ford trucks and found it. Great wealth of knowledge here and everyone is great about helping out where ever they can. That is what I have always known about the car hobby .

Some of us had to stay at work (being punished) while almost all others went home early for holiday weekend. So instead of working :p we decided to "google" people from our pasts. My search turned up the HAMB!! Guys decided I won. I got "hooked" on Drag Cars In Motion and haven't stop visiting since. Now that I quit working, I miss guy talk about their car projects. Don't get upset w/me ladies I also subscribe to Women In Hot Rodding, my friends do the eye roll if I start on the subject. Like knowing other females out there with me. So this is the perfect place for me, haven't found better. Thanks folks! Later- Wen

  11. I'm not a fng anymore but I just saw this thread.
I kept seeing HAMB shirts at car shows wondering WTF is the HAMB. Was searching for Norwell's stuff and it led me here. Found out Tuck was on here too. That was a good incentive. The Art was the main draw.
This place is a gold mine of information and inspiration too. I'm met some nice people and made some like minded friends. A good place for a motor head.
The crabby, opinionated, traditional nazi's and unsolicited feedback on here was a unexpected bonus.

I really feel thankful to have the use of this forum. I honestly was starting to get depressed until I found it. You see here in Tucson 90% of the guys that own cars have no taste, no sense of tradition, and no idea what a hot rod is. They think a pro-street 1985 IROC Camaro, with an air-brushed image of an Aztec warrior holding a chick, is a hot rod. I am not joking that is how lame it is here. They have this car show at a local restaurant, and the guys that enter their cars into the show are the type that have those stupid little stuffed dolls that lean against the front bumper of the car, and there is this lame D.J that plays country music from the late 70''s, which is sick because it sounds like disco and country mixed together, and they hand out little trophies and everyone claps. If anybody from Southern California saw this shit they would laugh their ass off! However there are a few cats in Tucson that have their shit together: Dale; Peter; Alex; Kirk; Shawn or Sean (Anglia); Bill; Ed; etc.. You know who you are. I do not know all these guys, but I know their cars, and have been close enough to hear their opinions when they get together in a group, and I know they are real hot rodders. Thank God for them! Thank God for the H.A.M.B.

  16. Guess I'm not an FNG anymore. And hell I'm still alive imagine that.

Ryan and I swapped links when I was publishing an e-zine, back before the turn of the century. I stayed in touch when i shut my site down.

Then in 03 I became unemployed and unemployable. I almost ran into Ryan at a car show. Decided that I needed some company. Its amazing how many friends you discover you really don't have when you become diabled. Anyway I checked the HAMB out and got myself drug in with you hoodlums.

BTW I am once again employable and gainfully employed.

I usually say that the HAMB helped me maintain sanity, but I think that is probably a matter of opinion.

I'm active over at Grassroots Motorsports (grmotorsports.com). I posted up pics of my '61 F-85 and asked if anyone knew what I can do if the transmission is dead. One of the guys pointed me this way and I spent hours Googling all the questions I had. I've read hundreds of pages over the last three years and just finally signed up.

I heard about the HAMB from a friend on another car related forum. I've been here a little over 5yrs and still haven't broke 100 posts.

I'm usually too busy working or working on one of my cars to spend a whole lot of time on here. I just lurk from time to time but usually don't say much because its usually already been said. Not only that, I don't post a lot of updates because all of my cars are not 100% HAMB friendly in parts choice. Weather it be a motor, wheels or whatever, I just really don't want to have to deal with negative replies and comments about what I did to my own car.

Don't get me wrong, this place has a wealth of knowledge, info, and a lot of great people. That's what keeps me coming back.

Read about it in Hot Rod magazine when that faux-patina fiberglass car was in there. They put in half a page or so of quotes from "the last bastion of traditional hot rodding" concerning how lame the car was. Somebody (forgive me, i've forgotten who.) said something along the lines of "Stevie Ray Vaughn's actual beat up Number 1: cool. Fender's $45000 reproduction of SRV's beat up # 1: Not so cool." being a guitar player, I thought that was cool and followed up on it. Seeing as how it subsequently saved my '62 galaxie from a BBC and billet wheels (yeah, I was stupid, but I blame it on bad influences. :D), I doubt I'll be leaving any time soon, either. Love it!

I just kinda fell into the H.A.M.B. by luck. I have always spent countless hours searching for how-to info on my projects and found the H.A.M.B. in a search. My life hasnt been the same since. I spend at least an hour on here every night. It has become an invaluable tool.

Am in Iraq and was looking for info on a car I purchased, a friend in the states suggested I look in to the site so here I am. Plan on staying, the info I get here is not found else where. I prefer to learn from the old school and get the experience of people who have built, and worked the projects.

I was googling words like ratrod, hotrod, jalopy looking for other people with interests in old cars and trying to find out more about my desoto.

If you google "Jalopy" this site is 6th on the list and I remebered seeing a H.A.M.B. dash plaques at a car show so I looked, got hooked, been here ever since!!!
