  1. I have a 1944 Maytag Laundry master washing machine and the drum belts keep ........ Oh wait a minute wrong forum. Found this site on GooGle while looking for old Hemi parts. The old timers here and their knowledge is valuable on a daily basis. Best site I visit on a daily basis!

nuthah Google find. I was wicked impressed with the level of craftsmanship and the lack of general internet grumbling that is so common. My post count is meager, but I'll continue to lurk and add in tiny bits when applicable.... First 50 bones I have to spare goes to membership... woo for de HAMB!

One of my best and most mentally deranged friends hotrodprimer got me hooked. Thanks Danny.

  4. Well,,,,I am getting older and want something to do after my kids leave.
I have always liked the old hot rods and wanted something different,,So I thought about an old engine and rod combo.
Something besides just a small block Chevy in an old streeter.

So,,,I lucked up and found an old 55 Desoto 291,,,for a good price.
As it turned out,,it was in great condition for its age,,,and I decided to find out all that I could about these engines.
As I was looking at different sites for info,,I stumbled across the HAMB,,,and have been coming here everyday since.

At this time I am looking at a 47 plymouth coupe to put the engine in,,,but have not finalized any deals yet. I am open to different ideas.

You guys seem like a great bunch , and I have already learned a lot from some of you. Keep up the good work.

  5. My brother and I are both geezers, been into drag racing and traditional hot rods since we were kids. Neither of us are NHRA or Goodguys types, if you know what I mean and you probably do. We were at the Kontinental's Day 'O the Drags a few years ago and kept running into these same guys checking out the cars that we were checking out. Two of them had HAMB t-shirts on so of course I finally asked one of them what it meant. I've been coming here almost daily since them but just recently got around to joining. I guess that answers the question about whether or not I'll be sticking around. This site has given me so much information, so many ideas and contacts that it is hard to put a value on it; but the value is high. I really appreciate and enjoy it.

Someone at a mustang forum linked the thread with all the sled's mexican finds. I spent 2-3 hours reading that thread one night. I had to sign up to leave a comment. Such an AMAZING thread. Anyway, I'm of no use tech wise, but I still like looking at all the builds, and people's amazing finds. Maybe someday I'll get a hot rod.

I read it and I thought I comprehended it. Read my intro post and tell me what you think.

To answer the OP's question (which I also answered in my intro post), this site came up repeatedly in my Google searches for what I consider old-school info. I joined because I have some questions to ask, and I'm betting some of you will have good answers for me.

Found it through a friend from work that races his rear engine dragster at mokan, an since I was born in the late late 60's I usually just read and learn, unless I have something useful to input, Like dad told me, don't speak bs unless you know what your talking about. this has worked out well for me and my kids, There is so much to learn here on this site I hardly get anything done anymore. see everyone at mokan in august.

  10. I have known about the HAMB from when Ryan first started it. Finally registered last year, but for some reason, couldn't get logged in.

  11. A guy that used to work with me a few years ago would always surf the hamb at work and told me to sign in. I finally did.

I think i found HAMB searching on google or somthing, looking for information on the 29 roadster AV8 project that my Dad and I are building. So I stumbeled upon this place and havent looked back. I absolutly Love this site. I spend hours upon hours looking at mesage boards and peoples rides. Not to mention the tech archives. That is some the most usefull information on the web. Allthough I dont have many posts and im a "FNG" I am a traditional hot rodder TO THE CORE.. I lOVE EM all, weather there rods or just sock. I actuly went to a car show today and saw so many "Hot Rods" that are just awefull. how many classics were destroyed with hacked up camaro or mustang II Clips and 350/350's. Makes me sick. coming to this place makes me Happy again!

My brother-in-law, "No_Respect", told me about it. He told me that I could get info about stuff that I want to do with my truck on here. So I started my build thread and looked at everyone else's for help with my build. And I ask a bunch of stupid questions, and help out where I can.

I have noticed occasional references on other sites. Wondered what HAMB was an acronym for, then I saw it spelled out somewhere the other day, "Hokey ass message board" so I checked it out and joined. I have enjoyed lurking and checking out lots of pics here this week. Good site!

I was searching for parts for a Ford Y Block and somehow found the H.A.M.B.
I watched and read the treads for a few years to see how things went and if I really wanted to join and make this my number "1" hot rod site . Well what I found was a world of knowledge from friends from all over the world with the same thing in mind ! I have had more help in the past couple years than I have learned in a life time and I am 55 now .
As for the FNG's , Yes we were all one at one time BUT some of the crap that is coming on the site now is wrong ! Too many want to just come and sell stuff . Hey that's what the other sites are for JUST TO SELL PARTS ! We at the HAMB are more like a bunch of different families and the rest are friends . You need to read everything first and it is there for a reason . Ryan didn't go through all the work for FNG's to make this there " How much is this worth or a question you can find on the Search " . Before you open your keyboard mouth to clog up the threads , do a search first ! That is why it's there .

Well enough of that crap , NOW it's time to get ready for the "SHOWDOWN ! " :D

I had been dreaming of building a traditional style Model A coupe for years, but thought that I lacked the ability or knowlege to build one, so I had stuck with 79-93 Mustang 5.0's (Yeah, unfortunately totally OT). I had an 1989 LX for years that I did a lot of work on, and it was relatively quick (10.70's), but it wasn't "fun" to drive around, so it hardly left the garage. Through google I came upon this place. Upon finding the HAMB, I followed Chopperman's first build of his coupe, and it made me realize that I could build the car I always wanted. So...I sold the Mustang, and found the parts that I am now building my 1929 coupe out of. I have pretty much learned all I needed to know about building it on here, and I couldn't have done it without this place! It is fun reading and learning on here, even if it has nothing to do with my project. A lot of people I know told me it would be hard to complete a project like mine, but the HAMB keeps me very motivated. Most people here have forgotten more than I'll ever know, so I don't say too much too often, but I read a lot. The search function can help you lots too!

I'm not a FNG, but I'll tell you about when I was. Late 90's I guess I was trying to find my roots. I went through the whole Mustang/Muscle Car/4x4/Import thing and wanted to get back to the basics. I started poking around the internet and found TJJ after searching "hot rod". I didn't know what a forum was, so I just checked back once a month or so to see what new stuff Ryan had posted up on the main page. In around 2000 or so, I strolled over to the HAMB and started reading everything, but never signed up. I got addicted to it, and it changed me. I soaked up all of the information I could like a sponge. I was addicted to the pictures and the history of hot rodding. I grew up in a gearhead family, but didn't have exposure to traditional hot rods, so the the HAMB and TJJ was my library. I bought a Model A Tudor and didn't know what I wanted to do with it, mostly because I didn't know I could fabricate anything, since I had only been turning wrenches and bolting on parts to all the other cars I've had, and for a living. I jumped in head first not knowing how to weld and trying to do things on a budget. I learned I had the skills to fabricate, and slowly honed them and aqcuired tools & equipment along with knowledge & experience. I joined the HAMB in 2003 and have been addicted ever since. It's now a daily ritual to jump on the HAMB and see what's going on. I've turned alot of my friends and family onto the HAMB, and just hope that they can soak up all of the information like I did. Not to mention all the funny shit that comes up all the time.

I found the HAMB when searching for I don't remember what. I was intrigued and signed up to get more involved. School keeps me busy for now, so my return to having a car or two will have to wait. In the meantime I am learning a great deal and getting ideas and inspiration for when I have a set of wheels to customize.

  26. I first found this hokey little site called jalopy journal about 10-11 years ago, had a bit of stuff i was interested in so i kinda kept tabs on it. Submitted a few pic's in the earlydays to the site.
Relationship breakdown and moving country changed my focus for a while into another form of motorsport, but i kept lurking here. Now i've got my shit together and building cars again i joined up and am kind of active here, and will be for a long time hopefully.
