    I remember my grandfather having on of those in his '50 Chevy pickup when I was 6-7 years old. He was a gadget man and always had similar things around his farm and shop. I do not recall him telling me it was for a reminder to do something at a certain time but he was religious about oil changes and regular maintainance.

    Hey.... my dad had one of those!
    He also had a small license plate (With his tag #) on his key chain, and a bottle opener!
    They used to call him "The Lead man", best Bodyman (& Painter) in R.I.!
    Old school...born in 1916.

    I was around when the wheel was invented but never have seen one of these.
